Why shouldn't the IRS be penalized for not processing refunds on time?

Because WE haven't gutted them and mass fired the freeloaders.

I agree, the Tax Code needs gutted. The ONLY deduction should be for charitable giving, if you suck air, you pay. There are so many loop holes I seriously doubt if these big mega corps like Microsoft, Google and the like actually pay any taxes when its all said and done. At least with a flat tax you know everyone would be paying the same percentage.

However, everyone in D.C. makes a killing keeping the status quo so Jack Squat will actually happen!

You mean the child money the .gov has direct deposited the last few months isn’t feee money !!
You mean they misled me ?!

First I’m irritated they even had my bank account info. As noted I always pay. Never get refunds. 2nd I looked Into refusing it and it was technically possible but such a cluster I figured somebody on their end would F it up so bad I’d be screwed so I just transfer it to savings to hold for giving it back in April. Lastly I don’t even need child care money. I work from home. My wife doesn’t work and they are teens so if we go out by ourselves now we don’t even need a sitter anymore.

Lovely Roll Eyes

My 2020 tax refund took like 6 months

It usually takes 4-6 weeks

I guess this year it will take 12 months

My dad just got a letter that says he didn't file his return for 2020 and has a credit for X amount. Amazingly enough, X amount equals his quarterly estimates for 2020 plus the amount of the check he sent in with his return. In other words, they cashed the check that was stapled to the return, but claim they don't have the return.

He also has the slip from the Post Office that says when he mailed the return (on time of course) and when the IRS received it.

Ditto trapper189. Received my letter yesterday. They have credited my IRS "account" in the same amount as the check I sent, but I need to send them my complete and signed 2020 tax return with all supporting documents.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It is possible they destroyed the return in the process of ripping out the staple. It takes much longer to properly remove a staple than to just jerk the check off the paper.
