She may be a nitwit (okay, not “may” be), but her being a nitwit is not the tragedy of the situation. The tragedy is that other nitwits are incapable of recognizing members of their own tribe, or simply don’t care, and keep electing people like that to positions of influence that impact us all.

^^ And even that was Made In China. It's sad to look at, but I guess it's a good thing those people suffer from the imagination deficit that they do.

What can you say? What we have in Washington today comprises the least competent and most embarrassing leadership this nation has had, ever. I suppose people in every generation of this country have felt that way, but, folks, I do believe that we are the real deal. Honestly, I do.

Yeah, but at least we don't get any more mean tweets!

Who knows which way this thing goes, China is still surrounding Taiwan. Too long to post.

Taiwan’s reunification countdown has begun

https://asiatimes.com/2022/08/...countdown-has-begun/

Small parts from the article. "Live-fire exercises that began on August 5 were not a drill but the real thing, namely a blockade of the island that China can prolong at will."

An amphibious invasion of Taiwan by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is not Beijing’s preferred scenario. On the contrary: a naval blockade would shut down the island’s economy in a matter of weeks and force capitulation. Taiwan’s pro-Beijing China Times August 3 edition noted that the PLA exercise is the equivalent of a three-day blockade.

The Taiwanese economics ministry reports that the island has an 11-day supply of natural gas and 146 days’ worth of oil. A blockade softens up Taiwan while leaving open the option of an invasion; if the mainland were to invade, it would do more or less what the PLA is doing in the present exercises.

US Lawmakers Land In Taiwan On Unannounced Trip 12 Days After Pelosi Visit

https://www.zerohedge.com/geop...s-after-pelosi-visit

A mere 12 days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Taiwan trip enraged China and triggered a week of threatening military drills, a new delegation of American lawmakers has touched down on the self-ruled island.

"The five-member delegation, led by Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, will meet senior leaders to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade, investment and other issues, the American Institute in Taiwan said," The Associated Press reports.

Adding to current tensions, starting last Tuesday Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl confirmed that the US Navy will soon conduct another "freedom of navigation exercise" through the contested Taiwan Strait, despite an ongoing heavy Chinese military presence.

Kahl said the sail-through is slated for "the coming days," describing that "We will continue to do Taiwan Strait transits, as we have in the past, in the coming weeks… We will continue to do freedom of navigation operations elsewhere in the region." The US Navy has continued to have the USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike group in regional waters near China, after the White House extended its deployment to the are in the wake of the Pelosi trip.

"Unannounced". And what, exactly, is the line between being nonprovocative and cowardice?

Beijing Starts More Live Fire Drills Around Taiwan To Protest Democratic Senator Markey's Visit

https://www.zerohedge.com/geop...atic-senator-markeys

The PLA started live drills around Taiwan on Monday, the SCMP reported, as the island’s president received the first US congress delegation since a visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi drew unprecedented military pressure from Beijing two weeks ago.

“This is a resolute counterstrike and solemn deterrence to the consecutive provocations by the US and Taiwan that undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait,” Wu Qian, a spokesman for China’s defence ministry, said. He added that the visit led by Democratic Senator Ed Markey sent the wrong signals to pro-independence forces in Taiwan. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said Monday that it detected 30 Chinese military planes and five warships around Taiwan’s surrounding region.

According to Bloomberg, unlike earlier this month when China conducted live-fire exercises and likely fired ballistic missiles over Taiwan’s main island, Beijing didn’t immediately specify exclusion areas for commercial planes or ships to avoid. Chinese naval vessels and warplanes have regularly breached the US-drawn median line that divides the Taiwan Strait since Pelosi’s arrival on Aug. 2.

In Beijing, foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Beijing had repeatedly warned against the trip, which breached the one-China principle and the three joint communiques signed by Washington. Wang also said the visit “blatantly violates” the country’s “One China” understanding with the US, was a “violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China” and cross-strait reunification was a historic trend that could not be changed.

“China will take resolute and strong measures to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Wang said. “The handful of US politicians who have been colluding with Taiwan independent separatist forces and attempting to challenge the One China principle, they are overestimating themselves and are doomed to fail.”

Taiwan Fired "Defensive Shots" At China Drones For First Time

https://www.zerohedge.com/mark...an-fires-china-drone

Taiwan's defense ministry has issued new details of the live fire incident with a Chinese drone which happened near Taiwan-controlled islands reportedly in the Dadan, Erdan and Shiyu areas.

Crucially, Taipei is confirming live ammunition was used, and not merely warning flares as in a prior July confrontation: "As Taiwan's military had warned on Sunday (Aug. 28), troops fired live ammunition on a Chinese drone that failed to heed warnings as it flew over an outer island on Tuesday," local reports cite defense officials as saying.

Taiwan regional media described the drone cluster as including "three batches of three civilian drones" - and that according to protocol warning flares were first fired. Taiwanese media has detailed the encounter as follows:

However, because the drone continued to circle over the island, soldiers fired "defensive shots" at the drone to drive it away. The UAV then flew away in the direction of Xiamen at 6 p.m. and the KDC will "continue to maintain vigilance and closely monitor the situation," the statement read.

This action is consistent with a warning issued by the KDC on Sunday that it would shoot down intruding Chinese drones that fail to heed warnings.

On Monday (Aug. 29), the KDC stated that it would carry out a four-step process in dealing with the drones that would include "firing signal flares, reporting the intrusion, driving the drone out, and shooting it down."

Meanwhile Chinese state pundits are busy issuing their own stark warnings...

The headline sparked anxiety across markets as fears remain of a broader 'reunification' war in the wake of Nancy Pelosi's ultra provocative Taipei visit on Aug.2.

US equity markets erased all their overnight gains. Bond yields initially tumbled on a safe-haven bid, but bounced back after the US macro data.

Meanwhile, China has been sending warships through the Taiwan Strait, also in breach of the median line on a daily basis through August.

Also on Tuesday, the Biden administration is said to be preparing an unprecedented $1.1 billion arms package for Taiwan, which Congress is expected to approve - but which is likely to take months or at least weeks to go through.
