I laugh when I hear these as two things.

It’s nearly impossible to put a diesel nozzle in a gas car. It won’t fit.

Diesel won’t ruin a gas engine. It’ll lubricate the he’ll out of it and you’ll have to drain the tank. It’ll smoke and run rich, but it certainly won’t ruin the engine.

I've been driving diesel trucks for 30 years. Shortly after buying my Harley, I pulled into the gas station one day and filled it up...with diesel. Force of habit. Gas station...green nozzle. I made it about a block down the road. Big Grin

Drained as much as I could and pushed it back to the gas station and filled it up with gas. Ran fine after that. Stupid gas engines...

A Chinese classmate in college got diesel put in her Honda by her dad. He saw an unused pump off to the side, and held the larger nozzle in place contacting the smaller unleaded filler. Why he didn't think it was odd the nozzle didn't fit I have no idea. I think he probably did not have a car in China.

This is where I joke (halfway) about BP and the fact that I have to be really careful if I use a BP station.

We're all used to the green handle being attached to the diesel pumps, and that's great. Except at BP -- at least the ones I've visited -- the gas handles are green and the diesel handle is black. They've fooled me once -- thankfully, not to the point of actually dispensing the wrong product -- so I make darned sure to read the pump and the handle more than once when I have to visit a BP station.

God bless America.

^^^ And BP stations use different, non-conventional nozzles. At least at newer stations.
