Sooner or later, I'm getting the other half of my house back. The shop, that I used to do my reloading and other projects in, has had cat pans that most charitably I can say are cleaned infrequently (I've never seen them fresh in the year and a half I've been back after a 4 year sojourn). The shop has a painted cement floor, and painted drywall. This, along with deposits on the floor from a couple of cats has a noticeable odor, moderated somewhat by the odor the dogs in the rest of that floor of the house. My question-how to get rid of the smell after I get my shop back. I plan to empty the area, wash thoroughly, use a lot of Natures Miracle odor neutralized and air the place out. If the dry wall has been hit enough, it may need replacement. Any other suggestions?

I've limited myself to factory ammo for awhile. I'm looking forward to hand loading and having a shop that smells like Hoppes,

Who has all the cats? Spouse, significant other, child? Seems once you get past 2 or 3 time to take notice.

I’d start with rugs, furniture, and anything else that can be absorbent. Over time with less critter density things should get better. Oftentimes cat odor is unnoticeable to the owner, but a newcomer has a different opinion.

https://www.kilz.com/blog/seal-block-odors/

My puppies had a spot on the rug that they repeatedly peed on. When I replaced the carpet, I used two coats of kilz to kill the odor Didn’t have any more smell of peeing.

A cleaning supply store had some odor killer. You might check with them.

BOOM! Dzozer beat me to it. I'd try painting the dry wall with Kilz after you treat it with the Nature's Miracle you mentioned. As for litter box cleaning, I have one of these and it's AWESOME at controlling odor. I have 2 cats that are 3 years old...every time I have guests over, I ask them if they smelled cat box odor when they came in. Answer has been "no" every time.

Yep. Just don't get duped into using any of the water based versions. Kilz Origional oil based is what I use. It can be tinted to help cover and match the top coat color if needed.

I usually ask it to be tinted to 50% of the final top coat formula values... however that may get you a deer in the headlights look if you are at a big box store. Big Grin

For concrete floors and other surfaces that you won't be putting Kilz on, use Bubba's enzyme cleaner. It worked wonders on my dad's cat pee ruined concrete:

I've had good luck with OdoBan as an additional step in outdoor eliminator needs.

Personally I'd go: Nature's Miracle, Killz, then OdoBan.

If that doesn't work you can try a ozone generator, but that has risks and requirements you need to be wary of.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

If you're thinking about using Nature's Miracle, do yourself a favor and save some $$$.

Go to a store that sells either marine (boating) or RV (camping) supplies and get the stuff that they use to treat holding tanks for toilets.

Same stuff, less money. Or, the stuff that is used for septic fields. Again, same stuff, without paying for the "Nature's Miracle" small quantity packaging and advertising budget.

I buy this in bulk concentrate from a local chemical supply house and bottle it in retail size bottles for sale in my carpet cleaning equipment rental business. If you were local to me I would be happy to do a karma for you, but it's a royal pain in the ass to ship this stuff.

VTail gave me some of this when we went shooting about 5 years ago, I still have it and it works AWESOME!

Thanks again V-Tail.

Guest family member. My wife offered half the house for them while I was gone. He has another 6 months before he finishes his degree and is eligible for a related job. I really want to see him complete it.

The number of cats isn't the problem. He has 2. I have 4 upstairs. In the past, visitors have mentioned noticing no odor from the 4-they have a pan each that's cleaned daily, or more frequently as needed. His aren't. Think of your john. If you had 4 people using it, and all flushed the commode after each use, or one person living there and they only flushed it once or twice a month, which situation would smell better?

Great suggestion, and all related that followed. I'll use the advice. Thanks !
