Woohoo! The sun rises earlier today!
In the northern hemisphere, winter solstice, on or about, Dec 21, is the shortest day of the year of course. But the earliest sunset is in early Dec. And the latest sunrise is in early Jan. This year, that was yesterday. Today, Jan 9, the sun rises earlier. My almanac app reports that sunrise here in San Diego will occur at 6:52:10 AM, one second earlier than yesterday. Very glad to see that!

8 weeks from this Sunday we turn the clocks ahead...

For me, that is the light at the end of the Winter tunnel...

Our front porch (where I sit and read a lot) faces due south. It's about 10 feet deep under roof, with a 3 foot roof overhang beyond the front wall of the house. I've been watching the sun's shadow creep slowly towards the front edge of the porch (actually it's still up on the wall a bit). At summer solstice, the shadow is about a foot off the front edge. It's works out well, as I get sunshine during the winter on the porch, and complete shade in the summer. [But 105 degrees is still hot even in the shade. Smile]

Guy's, just relax and enjoy the winter. My absolute favorite time of year Wink

There is no reason to rush to the hellish, hot, dry summer ahead.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

You know I love you. And I appreciate your optimism. But I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the notion that someone in San Diego even noticed winter. Razz

I'm another one of those sunset/sunrise watchers.

I try to simply make it through February. Do THAT and the worst is usually over. Then again last year we had SIX solid weeks of cold and snow right through February into March.

At the height of our short days, the sun doesn't hit us until almost 0900 as it has to rise over some mountains to out south east. Then sets behind the mountains to our south west by 1500 or so in the afternoon. Truly depressing.

Come on Spring!

It certainly is a dry heat, kind of like a kiln.

Yep. My favorite time of the year also.
This Winter has been weird in N.E. Ohio with Christmas being warm. Today is supposed to get to 60 degrees.
Barely any snowfall so far and temperatures have been from 15 degrees(a few mornings ago) to Spring like temps.
I want to ride but I'm not ready for hot and humid quite yet.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.
