does anyone know if they use filtered water (free of fluoride and / or chlorine)?

i know that this may differ by location, but i figure they standardize things, so an answer from a different state may apply here also.

not sure about McD's but I work in the casinos, and all of our water for coffee is filtered.

I read a few things in the past that they do filter their water.

McDonald's want to control the quality and taste of everything they made so it is the same across the board. Filtering out anything that could affect taste in the water would be standard practice for them.

Coffee is one of the things McDonalds does right in terms of bean quality, and price. I would be very surprised if their water wasn't filtered through the same way their soda machines are.

I'm pretty sure I've seen series water filters over the years. It would be a thing a location may decide to 'show off' in their design, so that patrons see an expensive cartridge system.

The linked company page claims to supply systems to McDonalds, developed for the chain. There are multiple online references to McDonald's Coke quality and the use of filtered water to achieve that distinction.

Former McDonald's Ops Director here....

Absolutely yes to the filters. They work exceptionally hard to ensure beverage consistency between stores and a site can fail a Quality inspection if expired filters are found.

I don't know if those filters can remove chlorine and fluorine. They may still be
sapping and impurifying your precious bodily fluids.

If McDonald's has such great filters, then why does the diet soda always taste like crap?

I have never received a diet soda from a McDonald's that tastes anything like a Diet "X" (Coke Zero, Diet Coke, whatever else they may have).

Just curious. Also, this is not exclusive to McDonald's. It is a phenomenon that spans all but a few fast food restaurants.

Probably the mix. They buy syrup in cannisters and mix with carbonated water etc on site as used. They can adjust the machines, within reason.

In a former life I managed the Mikky D's at Pearl and there were a few things to note about this owner.

She insisted the coffee's water filters were changed at the 0.75 usage mark and, we used a 100% Kona grind. The reasoning was sound; many a flag officer, or their assistants, bought coffee there and high quality therein made for some pretty good visitors.

I believe these new machines that are using a super concentrated syrup and mix every combination under the sun also make soda of all flavors taste worse than they once did.

I don't know if it's the syrup or the fact that you're getting who knows what leftover blending in the drink you're pouring.

I always let the machine run for a second or two to let the mixed stuff run out before putting my cup underneath.

Because Diet Soda tastes like crap regardless of how it's dispensed! :-)

As already pointed out filtered for sure. I don't know if their process removes fluorides et al but let me say, other than a few high end white table cloth restaurants, McDonald's brew is hard to beat. I don't drink fancy-pants coffees so I have no interest in Starbucks. Their regular brew doesn't suite me at all.

McD’s coffee is pretty damn good IMO. The commercially sold ground McD’s coffee bag with the yellow piping (morning blend) is in my home coffee maker as a type this. Cool

I drink around 4 cups per day at McDonalds. Sometimes more. None of the convienence stores here make coffee near as good. Sometimes the girls wont let me pay them for it. I enjoy McDs coffee. I do wish all McDonalds would move the sugar, creamer and stir sticks away from those damned nasty, sticky mess of ice and soda fountain drinks. I always get stuck waiting on 2 to 5 people having a taste test of their sticky mess, spilling it all over the place then topping off their glasses of yuck. Move that mess into the rest rooms where the mess better fits. Simple fix, coffee drinkers stuff over here, sticky mess drinkers stuff over there, 20 yards away. Excuse me while I sip the top off my fresh cup.. Cool

Agreed with everything. I have witnessed people putting 10 packs of sugar into their coffee, tasting each packet pour in. EYUCK!
