I enjoy reading obituaries and read them in several papers and online. There is so much history and some very interesting people. I read 2 such this weekend, 1 in my small hometown paper and the other in the paper from the city where I now live. Both were successful men who rose to the top in their respective fields. I found it coincidental, it was indicated at the end in both obits the men had served with Elvis in Germany. They were both of the age they very well could have served in the Army at the same time as Elvis. When I was discharged in 71, I met a gentleman who worked for the state Veteran's Commission and he indicated he had been Elvis's First Sergeant. Both obits were interesting without the Elvis connection, but it made them a bit more memorable.

That would have been something - I've always heard Elvis was a great guy and didn't push his celebrity status. I also loved his response when asked about his stance on the Vietnam War during a press conference before his Las Vegas performances, "I’d just as soon keep my own personal views about that to myself. … I’m just an entertainer, and I’d rather not say." My dad walked by the jeep he was sitting in, in front of the PX in Vilseck. Said only reason he noticed him was because there were like 5 people standing around him talking to him. My only connection is my quarters in Bremerhaven overlooked the pier where he came off the ship in the 50's.

When I was stationed in Germany in the early 90’s, the barber that used to cut Elvis’ hair at his Army post was still there and working.

A lady I worked with twenty plus years ago showed me some photos and color slides of Elvis that were taken in Germany. Her husband was in the same barracks with him and was friends with him. She said that her husband would never let those be sold or published, this was the first time a non family member had ever been showed them. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Five or six years ago we took a Viking River Cruise that stopped in Bamberg. IIRC, we had a free afternoon and the guide recommended a hotel bar where we drank bacon flavored beer. Inside were some photos of Elvis, not sure if he had stayed there or drank there.
