The demise of focal plane shutters?
The “DSLR vs Mirrorless” thread:

Brought something to mind. I think that the days of focal plane shutters are numbered. For film cameras, the focal plane shutter shielded the film from light until exposure time. That shielding isn’t necessary with CMOS sensors. And leaf shutters have several advantages:

Less bulk.
Faster shutter speed with flash.
Quieter.

A mirrorless camera with a leaf shutter is really quiet. My Sony RX10 is that way – an exposure is nearly inaudible.

Serious about crackers.
