I don't really print at home, but the wife is a realtor and uses her print/copy/scan every day. She has an HP that has been good but is getting print head errors a lot.

I recall some printer that hold a ton of ink or something, doesn't need cartridges that much. Just don't know the brand.

Looking for any recommendations.

I’ve used all the main brands and my current AIO unit is my favorite… it is an Epson Ecotank model. The ink lasts a ton longer than inkjets and is much cheaper than both cartridges and toner for lasers. It can print photos which our last printer couldn’t (it was a color laser), though it doesn’t print as fast.

I’ll never do HP again. They ALWAYS have issues. Our last one never wanted to print and was exceedingly finicky when using AirPrint. The Epson just works.

Our particular model doesn’t have an Automatic Document Feeder but other models do if that is needed.

The Ecotank is what I was thinking of. Thanks, we are looking at models now.

I have an older Brother ink jet that prints, copies, scans, and Faxes. It is a good home printer but it wastes a lot of ink when it performs its automatic cleaning. You burn through ink even if you are not printing.

I would also look into the Epson Ecotank if your wife does a lot of printing.

I have 2 Brother laser machines that I am very pleased with. The first is a black and white all in one for more mundane tasks as the toner cartridges for monochrome machines are much less expensive for day to day printing that doesn't require color. The second is a laser color printer only for pictures that require higher color rendition. This machine has higher resolution than the all in ones.
Going with laser on both machines greatly reduces the common issues of plugged ink lines and much of the cleaning related to inks. Toners are a bit more expensive but I like the convenience.

If you are printing a lot, a laser is much better than an inkjet.

Brothers and HP are my go-to for business all in one printers.

I am running decades old HP lasers.

When I was in business, nothing but HP and that's still true now that I'm retired.

I just bought an EcoTank (2800) for home use. So far I am very impressed with the print and scan ability. Plus it connects to the router at home, so everyone can use it without having to either send me the docs to print, or mess with the USB cable to connect. And the tank ability looks like a winner. My first photo printer used separate cartridges for C/M/Y inks. And while they tended to run out at the same time, it was nice to use all of one ink up before needing to replace it. And the EcoTank gets rid of the need for cartridges.

At work:
All of our MFP (multi-function printer) are HP, but they're expensive, large & the toner is quite high as well.
Our print only printers are all Brother & much more reasonable for toner.

I think if we were to need to replace one of the 2 HP MFPs here, we'd likely go with a Brother. But supply is quite low, with long lead times on new printers.
Otherwise, we encourage our users to make use of our commercial MFPs (Canon very large MFPs)

None of them are great.

Do you HAVE to get an all in one or do you just THINK you need one.

A small laser and a separate scanner/copier is a much better setup.

She went with the Epson Pro, I think the 5150. She had not interest in laser. She's used the HP for at least 5 years, with no issues (surprising for a cheap HP) so she figured she'd give the Epson a try. The big ink tank was the main driver. Also size due to space constraints.

Depends on how much you print.

For my business, an inkjet was a better investment.

In my opinion, laser produces a more professional product/print.

If your wife is a realtor, the incremental cost of a laser printer over an inkjet is worth not making a bad impression. Nothing says "I really don't get much business, that's why I can't justify the per-page economy of a laser printer" than being handed something printed with ink.

I really can't tell the difference when both are good quality printers.

Poor quality printers, yes there's a difference.

I have an old Epson Workforce. It's lasted a long time. Okay except for color printing.

I have an Epson Ecotank all-in-one and a 7-year old HP laser that will not die.

As others have noted, the Ecotank is the best inkjet option from an ink cost standpoint.

I agree with the suggestions above about going with a black and white laser for lengthy documents and an Ecotank for color pages, scanning and faxing.

A used HP laser is a viable option.

We use a Brother MFC-9340-CDW. It's a all in one color laserjet. Never had a problem with it. It's out of production, but I bet there is an updated version. Best part, not inkjet.

But why risk making a bad impression? All it takes is for one prospect to walk away to really mess up the cost-benefit analysis.

If your wife is running a business is best to step up to something beyond consumer grade. I did this year and got a Konica Minolta Bizhub C3351. It makes all the other printers and AIOs look like toys. It’s seriously that much better.

I got really tired of the very expensive consumer grade devices giving up just as I was getting busier and didn’t have time to fart around with drivers or figure out why there are color stripes on everyone’s invoices.
