Y'all might have noticed that I'm a huge Big Ten football fan. Growing up, half of my family were University of Michigan (UofM) fans including my father.
The National Championship is taking place tonight in Houston at 6:30 Central Time (i.e. 7:30 Eastern Time) and will air on ESPN.
It's a covered stadium, but still could have some weather impacts (street flooding, power outage, tornado, etc) as strong storms are rolling in. Space City Weather is a local, no-hype weather site (i.e. a breath of fresh air) and here is what they have to say:
quote:
A line of storms will move through this afternoon, likely reaching the downtown area between 4 to 6 pm and then pushing off the coast shortly thereafter. The key question is whether these storms will become severe. We can be confident there will be strong winds, primarily from the west. Expect gusts up to 35 to 40 mph later today. Although the overall chances are low, we also can’t entirely rule out severe thunderstorms with the potential for hail and possibly a tornado. Unfortunately a lot of this mess will be setting up just ahead of the College Football National Championship Game at NRG Stadium this evening, and during the afternoon commute.

I think it's going to be a fascinating matchup, as were the two semi games but for very different reasons. Glad it's starting at 6:30 instead of 8, I may be able to make it through this!

Going to have to go with WA, can't support a team with a coaching staff that used stealing other teams signals/plays to win games. Harbaugh isn't good for MI, I know several alumni that were rooting against MI, their alma mater, over him...

Definitely the Huskies, but I think TTUN is going to kick their ass.

Frankly I was more interested in the 2023 FCS Football Championship Game played yesterday. The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits won over the Montana Grizzlies for their second championship in a row.
I'm finding that big school CFB teams, while always a "business," have morphed too far towards the NFL for my tastes. FCS teams appear to have been lesser affected so far.

That was a good game, albeit a little disappointing. I was hoping the Grizzlies would lose 56-0.

"So far" being the operative words there. NIL and the portal have changed even the FCS for the worse.

Might watch the game but no preference as to who plays or wins the game..... College athletics are no longer athletics but "BIG FRIGGIN BUSINESS".. and major money making machines for the schools especially if they are lucky or unlucky enough to be signed with the TV contracts.. As well as some jr colleges and some major cities high school teams... Especially when these schools are allowed to play non-conference rent-a-win teams so that they can bolster their win loss record for year end record............. With some players leaving school prior to graduation hoping to get pro players contracts..But when they do not make it for numerouus the tax payers end up supporting them...Sorry for the soap box rant. ...... drill sgt.
