Hopefully none of the police officers were injured!

Any indication as to what led to that?

Since they're not allowed to carry guns, what else can they do? Use a different deadly weapon. Big Grin

Uh, not strictly true. There ARE guns, many guns, when required, each county police force has a number of armed response teams with firearms-trained officers who can, and do, use their firearms.

However, not being allowed and choosing not to are two entirely different things. Almost 80% of ALL UK police officers would not choose to be armed if offered the choice.

I know it sounds very odd to you guys, but there it is.

Guns are there when the situation requires them - chasing a couple of low-life scumbag teenagers in their crappy old car was not one such occasion.

I read a few of the comments under the story. The comments turned into an international war. It seems like this is the norm any more for a violent news story.

I don't know why they had to hit that car so hard. Couldn't they have just tapped the bumper?

I think the Renault was in reverse, the driver brakes, the reverse lights come on, and the cars slam together.

I think the bad guy tried to ram the copper, not the other way around.

Renault Story:
A high school friend owned a true French classic: A Renault Dauphin.
Like a Yugo, but French.
He thought it would be funny to bump over some plastic garbage cans. He figured he could tap them over without damaging his high end ride.
Wrong. He misjudged the tap, got a can stuck up in the wheel well which disabled the car by lifting it off the ground. Irate resident can owner then responded and beat my buddy's ass.
And the lessons were:
1- When the trash can weighs more and is better constructed than your ride, do not hit it.
2- Renault Dauphin is a POS.
And it looks to me like the Renault driver was intentionally backing into the patrol car, probably trying to get the air bags to deploy and disable the patrol car and or the cops.
