trapper189Speed Queen Dryer starts but stops ER on display
My parents' Speed Queen Dryer, now 2 months out of warranty, stops running. It displays an ER message which according to the book means the motor's overload protection has been triggered. It will restart. They had a repairman out who my dad says told my dad it would be $900 to fix.
Model - ADEE8RGS173TW01
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm not at my parents' house, but live close. I'm fairly handy and have fixed my own dryer in the past, replacing the thermal overload thing. I'm not finding an overload protection device in the parts diagrams I've found on the internet.

cheezeThe repair estimate he gave you should include info about what repair he is proposing.

Lefty SigSearch for Speed Queen diagnostic tests and fault code info.
I had an "LR" code on a Maytag Neptune (ca. 2001 manufacture). Searched it, found out it meant "Locked Rotor", meaning the drum was not turning when commanded to, along with how to put the machine in diagnostic mode and run tests. Turns out it was a blown fuse on the motor control board, which meant the motor was bad. Bought the motor and board and replaced them myself.

I paid $972 delivered for my Speed Queen dryer last year.

trapper189My dad just sent me a copy of the estimate. This is all it says:
1 BB1088150 REPLACE ELECTRICAL E CONTROL/COMPONENT $1453.27
And my dad paid a $109 service fee for that. I suspect the guy didn’t do any diagnosis.
I called Speed Queen and for there part, if the tech can tell them what parts, they will provide and ship the replacements for free since the machine is only 2 months out of warranty.
I looked the code, ER RO, up and it means the motor’s overload protection was triggered. I asked and dad tells me mom doesn’t overload the thing. It’s just the two of them, no comforters, or giant loads of towels; just what fits in the Speed Queen washer.

Overload has to do with current load on the motor not amount of cloths being dried. That is probable the # of a control board. Testing would have to be done to the motor to verify the motor is good .

trapper189They didn’t test the motor specifically.
I went over to my parents and was able to read the invoice. Testing consisted of the guy here talking to the guy at Speed Queen and deciding two parts would need replacing. I got the part numbers emailed the invoice and part numbers to a customer service person at Speed Queen and we’ll see what happens. Talking with Speed Queen on the phone earlier, they seemed willing to provide the parts.
Looking at my parents’ paperwork and it’s actually only 29 days out of warranty, not two months like I originally posted.

ZSMICHAELThe replacement of the control looked pretty easy if you have motor skills and can crawl around on the floor. Seemed quite accessible. Of course your mileage may vary. Good luck.
BTW the guy had on a headlamp which made the job easier.
