Anyone have any experience with the Shimano Curado DC? I just purchased one. I've always had Daiwa's but find the digitally controlled brake an interesting concept. If you have, what's your experience and what rod did you mount it on? I'm spooling this up with some PowerPro 50 lb. braid.

I looked at the curado (which is to say I fondled it for a few minutes) and ended up going with ABU Garcia REVO sx. The Curado was nice, smooth, but more than I wanted to spend for my first bait caster. I've always fished spinners so I figured id ease in to the bait caster game.

Knowing shimano, I'm sure you made a great choice.

What will you be fishing with that 50lb braid???

I have a couple Curado DCs on the G. Loomis E6X rods, 7’2” MH fast action. I fish redfish and trout here in southern Louisiana. The DC reel is pretty nice in that I don’t have to think too much about thumbing the spool when casting. It still birdnests if casting against strong wind or if you really whip the rod to attempt casting into the next state, but overall it works really good in most situations. My worhhorses are still the Curado K and the relatively new SLX XT reels because of their simplicity. I’m not sure DC reels will ever replace my entire collection but it’ll certainly augment it.

Curado has been my go-to for a long time. The Citica is a slightly cheaper version that I like a lot too. I think the only difference is the Curado has bearings that won't as easily corrode. Not an issue if you're fishing freshwater, though.

Best BC reel I've used. Mine is from the mid '90's. As mentioned, don't try to over-cast it like you would with an ole Ambassador.

I was a huge curado shimano fan for many years never even gave any other brand a look, one day just for the heck of it I tried a daiwa zillion and was blown away by how nice the backlash brake worked. just a quick turn of the side adjustment and your dialed never having to pull the cover and slide weights. I now have 1 steez 3 zillions and a tatula. I have also switched a few of my spinners over to the ballistics. I'm just very impressed with there products and feel like shimano is way behind there game and are kind of living off their old reputation.
my 201e7 301ez chronarchs mdl all went by by soon after and I haven't looked back. I haven't tried a dc but to be honest I never once thought the braking system worked very well , just thought that they were all like that. now I can cast without using the thumb and never have any issues. I steelhead and salmon fish here in the pnw.

if you read the add on shimano sight it says less thumbing not thumb free , my Daiwa's are smoother have a heavier drag more line capacity I would check out the zillion svtw it truly is a great system.

one more thing microcomputer on the shimano I dont about you, but my reels get dunked and are sometimes used in saltwater conditions n the bays so there is that to think about.

I fish for large and smallie bass.
I have both Curado and Metanium DC reels.
The Curado was my intro into baitcasters, and then I got the Mentanium.
Never looked back, the Mentanium is hands down the best reel I have used and I’ve tried a lot.
Sure, a few more dollars but so worth it!
Both are mounted on 7’ St. Croix legends.

I only know of that reel from following The Reel Test on YouTube. If you aren’t familiar with this guy’s channel, he tests and reviews...reels. He is very knowledgeable about reels, and I have purchased a reel based on his review.

Yes, the PowerPro 50 lb. braid diameter is the equivalent of 12 lb. monofilament.

I just switched back to PowerPro after trying another braid that ended up giving me fits. My go to rig for most of my fishing (bass) is 30lb PowerPro and i'll tie some flouro leader when I do inshore fishing in the event I get s slob snook or red.

Let us know how you like the set up!

I have and use the 5000A, C and D. They are all from the 1958-1961 time period. I keep them lubed.
If I am not going to be using them I strip the line off before I put them away.

I received the Curado DC yesterday and mated it to a 6'8" St. Croix BassX Medium/Extra Fast Rod. I am very impressed with this setup! You can easily cast it a country mile with no fear of bird nesting while using setting #2. Even into a strong wind!
I have a feeling this may be my go to this spring.
I've tried all different kinds of line, mono, fluoro, braid..... This PowerPro is the best braid I've tried to date. Looking forward to trying the PowerPro Super * Slick. The reviews I've read are all great.

Good luck with the Curado DC. It will be great.

I have a bunch of the older green Curado Es, and a bunch of Daiwa Zillions, and some of the Daiwa Feugos and Sols, mostly on older Houston-made All Star rods and on Fenwicks. As far as line, my go to is Yo-Zuri Hybrid for just about everything. It's very abrasion resistant and has about 1/2 (or less) the stretch of comparable test monofilament. I'm one of the rare birds that never really liked braid.
