and it's gonna be fun to watch.... Ossoff lost Tuesday to an underwhelming perennial Republican candidate, Karen Handel, in a decisive fashion that is sure to spark more questions about what type of candidates and what type of message Democrats need in the Trump era. The most passionate Democratic activists have wanted a full-frontal assault on Trump and congressional Republicans, angrily denouncing party leaders for not aggressively supporting more progressive candidates. https://www.washingtonpost.com...m_term=.abaf012beac1 Democrats Are Setting Themselves Up For Nasty Purges — Worse Than the 2010 Tea Party Challenges By Erick Erickson This Washington Post story gets at the problem that is before Democrats. In 2010, tea party challengers entered a series of primaries against Republicans who they thought were too compromising with Barack Obama. The challenged worked, and many of the tea party challengers went to Congress. A good number of them turned out no better than the men and women they replaced. But some have become real fighters and now make up the House Freedom Caucus. Though much derided by the media and establishment, they have been pushing the GOP back to the right. On the Democrat side, some Democrat activists on the ground in Georgia were quite dissatisfied with Jon Ossoff. They wanted someone to lead “The Resistance, ” and Ossoff sounded like a moderate Republican. They wanted someone to savage the President, and Ossoff talked about working across the aisle. They wanted someone to deliver on progressive agenda items, and Ossoff rejected government-funded universal healthcare. Add to that Republicans were successfully able to portray Ossoff as a puppet of Nancy Pelosi’s who would be a yes man for her. That hurt him as much as pointing out he was a carpet bagger. Expand that into 2018. There are scores of Democrats who will run against Republicans in swing districts, and there are many Democrat incumbents who are not down with the full progressive agenda. Democrats risk nominating their own Sharon Angles, Todd Akinses, and Christine O’Donnells who scratch the itch of the progressive left while turning off swing voters. It is worth remembering that outside conservative groups did not put Angle, Akin, or O’Donnell over the finish line. These candidates pulled into the lead on the support of local partisan activists alone. It was only at the end of their races that outside conservative groups jumped in to help. That cannot be overstated here. It was the local, homegrown activists who put the wind in the candidates’ sails. And as the national Republicans tried to rein them in, the local activists pushed even harder. Though people like Jim DeMint and Sarah Palin get blamed for these candidates’ nominations and losses, in every case the outside conservative groups they led were completely hands off until the candidates were well into the lead and even then waited until just a few weeks before the primaries. It was the local tea party activists who wanted a resistance to Obama who nominated them. Democrats want a resistance. They want to impeach the President. They want full-blown socialism. They want to go further to the left than the tea party wanted to go right. A lot of activist Democrats are already interpreting Jon Ossoff’s loss as him not being aggressively anti-Trump enough. The Democrat base has moved way further left than where the American public is and at a time we seem to be in a pendulum swing back to the right, that could hurt them. As they start challenging Democrat incumbents with more liberal activists and start winning primaries in swing seats with radical progressives, they risk their ability to win. What makes this fun to watch is knowing they reject that idea and think the more radical and more militant the more likely their candidates will win. I cannot wait to watch their slate of moonbat crazy challengers. http://theresurgent.com/democr...ea-party-challenges/ "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I say let them keep lurching further and further left! They will just continue to get their asses kicked all the way through Donald Trump's second term and further and will shrink from being even a coastal regional party to a fringe party. In other words, FUCK EM!

Yes, those in charge of the Dem party are pushing themselves out of existence. Most likely they will push until someone with common sense comes along. Sort of like Trump coming along when the Republican party is going nowhere. I imagine this will happen after the 2020 elections, and the dems lose even more seats. -c1steve

The mid-term elections will be quite interesting as a gateway to 2020, as mid-terms always are. I fear that Trump will be in trouble if he doesn't produce tangible results. Independents are starting to wonder why he hasn't delivered on his large campaign promises and while it takes time to retool from the prior administration, eventually Trump will have to produce. Assuming he does with strained cooperation from Congress, the real fun will come from the Democrats. The D's are split right now with one group saying that "Hate Trump" is not a POA or strategy and the party needs to get more involved with with the white middle class and the important issues and not get bogged down with the far left causes. To me that's the best way for them to have a better chance but it's the other group, the ones who see any kind of compromise on message, that will become much more militant and destructive. The first group needs their support but won't be able to condone their actions. The later group will resort to violence and civil unrest to force their position to the forefront and it will all make for good theater. Trump needs to stop with the Tweets and start acting presidential. He owns the bully pulpit but doesn't use it, at least not how it can be done to be the most effective. He acts at times like he's in high school and that will be excused by the public if he can deliver the results but it's just not how I want my presiden to act. These victories are not, IMO, a forceful endoresment of the president but instead of a strong desire not to have a D in charge since a D in the White House didn't work out too well. Just my observations and hopes. Trump can be the catalyst for long term change but he needs a big ticket bill to make it known. He needs a good healthcare bill, a significant tax reduction bill and a few others to really show he's making a meaningful change for the greatest number of people.

One thing the Trump Administration really needs to get done ASAP is to purge the Administration of all the "holdovers" from the Obama Administration. They are nothing more than Firth Columnists and able to do much harm. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth
