I’d say you are doing it right. Same here, never been on those stupid social media apps. All they do is data mine you, and your shit, and sell it to the highest bidder. They are worth billions because they sell all your information. Until I’m getting a check I’ll pass as well.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Update on this:

Apple withdraws cloud encryption service from UK after government order

iPhone-maker says it can no longer offer advanced protection in Britain after secret demand for ‘back door’ to user data

I cannot figure if this is a cave or what here?

Article seems to require a subscription, so didn’t read, but I could totally see a generic announcement along the lines of, “Due to demands of some totalitarian governments to implement a back door that allows the government to bypass Advanced Data Protection (ADP) which encrypts user data worldwide, Apple will comply with that order by not providing the ADP feature in totalitarian countries that would require the neutering of ADP. Instead, we recommend that users in totalitarian countries use other tools to encrypt their data before backing it up to iCloud. A list of encryption options available includes but is absolutely not limited to <several options>. Please do your own research and determine for yourself what encryption tool or tools will best meet your needs.

Oh, by the way, ADP is no longer available in the United Kingdom.”

Only a fool would trust Apple in the first place. Apple, the same company that was/still eavesdropping on unsuspecting users in real time using a team of contractors? The same company that was deliberately slowing down older iPhones so users would be forced to upgrade? The same company that allows developers to access your Contacts/data and many of the sensors on your device without your knowledge or consent? The same company that was deleting imported songs from iTunes music libraries? Give me a break.

It's highly likely these agencies already have access, directly or indirectly.
Stories like this are designed to make the public feel like Apple has their best interest in mind.

As much as I hate Apple, I hate Microsoft even more.
