We purchased a Samsung top load washer & matching dryer a couple of months ago on sale for about $1200. My wife likes the lack of an agitator but we found only 2 cycles, deep wash & heavy duty to put enough water in the machine. The main problem is the water temp. Hot is tap hot (129F), warm is 68 degrees, cold is tap cold (47F). Samsung says that this is normal because its cold outside. The board & water valves were replaced with no change. The repairman had to call Samsung tech & sent him all the data & photos of my Temp probe showing 68F. The Samsung tech did not know he was on a speaker & said "You should not have replaced anything, just tell the customer that is the way it is & leave". The short of it, Lowe's is willing to take the Samsung back & replace with another set. I want to stay in the $1200 to $1500 range or less. We are in our 70's & wash only 5 to 7 small loads a week. Just want to be able to have proper water temps & select water level. Also my wife is 5ft 2" & has to have a stool to reach the bottom of the Samsung washer. Been looking online at GE 4.6 & LG 4.5's. Does anyone have experience?

I'm in love with my new washer. It's a bit small, but it does laundry super fast so it doesn't matter. Five temp settings, besides that only two other dials to set. No digital display to fail, no fancy options. It has an agitator and fills to the top with water. It works and looks like an old fashioned washing machine. I can't say enough good things about it. May not be available through Lowe's though.

I love my 2014 Speed Queen set. They are beasts.

I had a similar problem with the water being too cold. I turned the cold valve on the wall down a bit and problem solved. I don’t know if that will work on digital machines, but it works like a champ on the older analog units.

Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana washer-dryer-refrigerators are all owned and made by Whirlpool and what Brad would recommend.

BTW here's a helpful hint. My washer is near my kitchen, so I turn on my kitchen sink hot water faucet and let it run a moment until I get HOT water flowing before I start the washer. That ensures my washing machine gets hot water flowing in quicker that way. Otherwise my washer gets more cold than hot water because there's colder water in the line. If your washer is not near a sink this may not work as well for you. It's just how the hot water lines are routed.

I do similar to this. My basement utility sink sits right next to my washing machine, and both are on the opposite side of the basement from the water heater.

I started to buy a fancy washer and dryer but because the entrance way to my basement is narrow I opted for the cheap no frills washer and dryer that would fit through the door. Best move I could have made, old style controls so nothing to fail and it washes and drys my clothes just fine. I'm single and live alone so I only need to do my wash once a week so a small capacity washer and dryer works for me.

The larger machines with all the bells and whistles look great and "might do a better job" than my entry level machines but with all the added technology and features is just a lot more stuff that can go wrong and cost a lot of money to repair.
