I was killing some time sitting in the car while my wafe was in the store shopping, so I called our Volvo dealer and made an appointment to have my 2015 Volvo XC60 in for normal mileage/time service the first week of January 2020.

As we pulled out on the Interstate to head home, &^%$%(@&, the CHECK ENGINE light came on. Stopped at a parking lot, checked oil, coolant, belt, no issue. Stopped at an AutoZone for a quick OBD2 scan. Code P018C Fuel Pressure Sensor "B" Circuit. Car was running fine, so.....

A little Goggle check tells me: Sensor or wiring or $$$ FUEL PUMP, or $$$ ECM. I am going to clear the code on Monday and see if it throws it again. Then, I will order the Sensor and install it myself. I have to wait until Monday because I have a new scanner ordered. My old one is on loan to a guy who happens to be deployed.

Volvo has been owned by Geely (Chinese company) for several years. Their quality has taken a hit since.

Thanks. That helped. I'll look into it to see if that works.

Your post didn’t say you were looking for anything...

In that case, I’d recommended selling it.

That would solve the problem indeed.

Why did you post? Sympathy? Need a hug from others here?

Ok, sorry you bought a car with low reliability ratings and got just that?

Better?

I’m just razzing you...GO NAVY!

Would you have access to a fuel pressure gauge that would be compatible with your fuel rail bleed valve?

With this type of thing, a factory shop manual would go a long way if you plan to keep the car.

63000 miles and 1st issue, I'm not calling unreliable. This car, like my 2012 Volvo S60 T6 AWD, looks and runs as good as the day I drove it off the lot in 2014.

When the Chinese bought Volvo, I suggested they change the name to Vorvo.

The reason I posted was in the hopes someone would have an idea of what else to do.

Go Army! Smile

Thanks for the idea, i don't have a fuel pressure guage. From my perspective, it will be easier to replace the Sensor, a $100 and 15 minute job. I am pretty certain the fuel pump is good, had it up to 90 mph on the way home, no hesitation. First, I want to clear the code and see if it comes back. Some research leads to a common issue with the sensor.

Thinking one possibility is if you have a recirculating fuel delivery system and the pressure regulator is the culprit, it may have lower fuel pressure than what the sensor desires. This wouldn't present itself during drivability unless you launched it from a stop or were trying to pass something (simply the worst possible time) and not when you are just rolling through town.

I think the ECM going bad would set a plethora of codes and the pump with reduced pressure would be rare. Critters chewing the harness is unlikely unless you have a Toyota.

Purely speculation on my part.

Low and behold!!!

After much internet searching and looking at a bunch of "technical" stuff I found out that:

There is an Extended Warranty for 8 years or 80K miles on the Low Pressure Fuel Sensor! Yes!

Cool!

There had to be something going on for them to come up with that.

'Tis the season.
My Subaru threw a cel yesterday, just as I was pulling in the driveway. OBD 11 said it was the knock sensor, which I just replaced it on 4/4/2018.
I didn't clear the code.
I went ahead and changed the tires to snows for winter, and when done, no more cel.
I drove 100 miles today no performance issues no cel.
Strange.

A friends' Volvo had a contaminated charcoal canister that gave him a series of fuel related codes, including bad sensors and fuel pump troubles.
