I had a rib that was really outta wack. I went to a highly rated chiropractor in the area and he cracked me over the course of 3 visits and took some xrays. He got my rib feeling better but he gave me a very doom and gloom outlook on my spine (multiple bone spurs, injured disks, poor curvature, etc).

He recommended that I need to see him three days a week for a few months to correct a lot of the issues to prevent them from getting worse. I was given a copy of the xrays, any chiropractor guys willing to give me a second opinion? I’m under 30 with no major injuries.... I can’t imagine I’m that torn up already.

Thanks.

I have bilateral pars fractures and a slipping disk that I am absolutely convinced was caused BY a chiropractor. Run!, don't walk.

PT, regular exercise directed by said therapist, developing muscle tone and good posture. YMMV. But I couldn't be more convinced myself.

Ran into a similar chiropractor. Basically told me that I would be paralyzed in the near future unless I started seeing him three times a week. I never went back.

There are a lot of good chiropractors, but there are some who will treat you until your insurance or bank account is exhausted.

My chiropractor tells me to come back when I need to. If he makes me come back, he does not charge me for the follow up.

My wife goes to a different one that says everyone is in bad shape and sells a membership for a shit ton of money and tells people that they treat for everything, including cancer. They say that without chiropractic care, you will live 14 years less than someone who sees a chiropractor regularly. They also do the x-rays and tell you how bad of shape you are in and say you need to come 3 times a week 6 months and then be re-evaluated. Maybe then you can go down to twice a week.

I love my my chiropractor and will say that he got rid of my sciatica and does make me feel better "when I need it" but I am skeptical to say the least about some of the claims that my wife's chiropractor makes. She say she feels better so there is no debating it with her, but I shake my head and say whatever and think of all the other things that I could do with the money she gives these people.

Yeah, I used to have a couple of guns.

I've seen a chiropractor for several years on and off for a slipped rib, lower back issues from being rear ended, etc. In several cases, things got much better across several visits as expected. Sometimes I'd ask him about something and he'd tell me that's not something he could treat and I need to see a MD or specialist MD. Base on my experience, I respect the opinion of this chiropractor greatly.

I think finding a good chiropractor is the same as finding a good personal medical doctor. Some are good, some aren't, some may be great but are too busy or can't communicate, etc.

Second opinion? You haven't had a first opinion from a REAL DOCTOR. If you think it's possible you have serious spine issues, you need to consult with real medical professionals, not a chiropractor.

Do you know what "alternative medicine" that actually works is called? Medicine.

The few times I saw different chiropractors, I made sure they were going to crack my bones and not do any mumbo jumbo thing. The second thing I tell them is I'm not going for more than three times if I have to to fix my condition.

Usually, one or two visits is enough.

I found one where it was covered by my insurance then and the plus was I can get a 30 minute massage by a masseuse before I get the manipulation.

I'm a retired chiropractor after 33 years in practice.

It was rare to find some your age without major trauma in their history, with such xray abnormalities, who needed such a course of treatment.

One of the few with those issues I saw was a highly competitive athlete who was an alternative on the women's Olympic volleyball team. Some of her complaints did benefit from chiropractic care, but many of her problems needed medical specialist referral.

My opinion is you need to find a second opinion.

I was having quite bit of pain in my lower back on the right side above my hip. GP / MDs were all over the place with guesses. I decided to try a Chiropractor who came highly recommended. I filled out a detailed history form before I saw him and he X-rayed me before he even saw me. He then showed me that my right leg was was about a third of an inch shorter than my left, and this was causing my pain. He said that this was due to bone loss resulting from a broken leg I had 30 years earlier. No adjustment was going to address the problem long term. Cost was X-rays and office visit. Honest guy who knew his biz.
The GP / MDs I saw couldn't be bothered to X-ray.
Do your research and find a trusted bone cracker.

I had a really good Chiropractor years ago, saw him one night out to dinner and said hi, small talk. Next day I heard the news that he died that night, was devastated.

Took a good while to find another that I considered honest & good at what he did. Few years later he retired.

Next visit was to a massage therapist that my MOM recommended. He is my go to, and I could tell you a long story about how he rescued me from shoulder replacement!

Do your research, and for sure, don't rule out a good massage therapist!

FU DMF, you do not have a clue what you are talking about.

As to the OP, your description is uncommon for a 30 yo person. On the other hand, some people do have significant problems when young that should be analyzed and addressed. My email is in my profile, I can look at the images if you like.

The leg length discrepancy is greatly misunderstood. 99% of the time it is caused by an upper cervical misalignment. The fracture from long ago could be the problem, but most likely is not. Every day at work I change leg length discrepancy by precise upper cervical adjusting.

Chiropractors can be wonderful, you just have to find the right one. The first one I saw was not. While he did help me, his focus was on getting me back in his office as frequently as he could. He did help me, but the focus was always on getting me back in the office the next time and I got tired of the no end in sight treatment plan pretty quickly.

Fast forward a few years, and I tweaked my back really good doing backflips on a trampoline with my nephew (turns out I'm not as young as I once was). I found a new chiropractor and she is a godsend. She got me fixed up very quickly, and never tried to push anything on me that I don't need. If I ever start having back issues again, I'll be headed straight for her office.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I have a great chiropractor I have been to off and on for several years. I have heard they are “quacks” by many. I can tell you orthopedic surgery on the back seldom produces a great outcome. Find a good chiropractor and avoid surgery as much as possible.

I went to a chiro when my disk was bulging and pressing on a nerve in my neck,I have nerve damage now due to waiting, but I digress...

I went to see the chiro because it hurt so bad and I was a week out from getting a series of shots in my spine to reduce the disk.

The chiro talked to me, never took xrays as i provided him a disk of my neck (MRI). he said that he wanted to see me when I needed it and not on some schedule.

This was the key that sold me. He never was pushy about visits, and explained how the massage I got at one visit was better than just manipulating me.

as we age we all develop bone spurs and bulging disks, its a fact of life. He showed me on my MRI where I have five bulging disks, yet only one was causing me grief. He treated me for that one thing.

Good luck, and I hope you find a better chiro.
