Went to the optician recently for new glasses and my wife mentioned i blink constantly and make other people nervous. Eye doctor said it had nothing to do with my prescription lenses, gave me some drops and told me to go see another doctor. Haven't found the time yet. Just recorded myself blinking and i do look like a light tube about to go. Am aware i desperately need a break, when trouble finds me i tend to increase the blinking. Ideas? 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

It sounds as if your eyes may be dry. Try using an eye lubricant, such as Refresh (I use this). There are a number of OTC brands. https://bestreviews.com/best-lubricant-eye-drops You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member

I had that issue as a kid, about 10y/o or so. It wound up being a nervous thing that I grew out of pretty quickly. Are you under more stress recently, that you may be underestimating? Foster's, Australian for Bud

That seems to be the general consensus, but I am not particularly aware of it. Wish i could pinpoint what is the source of this overflow situation. Dry eyes appears to be the effect. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

See a opthamologist{MD} Possible blephorospasm. Could be a tic. Similar to stuttering in origin. Multiple causes from anxiety to other issues. Not likely to be serious disorder. Relatively common. Better than not blinking at all. Opticians are good, but MDs are experts in diseases of the eye and do surgery as well. Good luck and post back after seeing Doc. Insurance covers this visit since it is not about fitting lenses.

Dry eyes are common even after years of no problems. Try hydrating yourself more. Getting shot is no achievement. Hitting your enemy is. NRA Endowment Member . NRA instructor

I had it for years as a kid. Turns out it was due to building model cars and planes indoors. Using modeling glue and paint with little to no ventilation.

First, apologies. I meant ophtalmologist on my first post but my english failed me while typing. Stress is the main suspect here but after all we've been through the last couple of years it is surprising that only now there is a manifestation. It's a huge possibility. I hydrate plenty, but am permanently hooked to a screen or another. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Blepharospasm does manifest in different ways, and it should be considered, especially if the blinking is uncontrolled; if you can make yourself NOT blink, the cause is most like likely not blepharospasm, and then stress or tear film insufficiency could be possible culprits (as mentioned).

^^^^^^^^^^^ Good post. If physical causes excluded see a clinical psychologist for possible anxiety issues. Biofeedback and relaxation training help. Hair pulling, and other tic disorders can have similar origins to eye blinking. Post back when you find out the problem.

I too had a dry eye diagnosis. I use Systane. John The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

Elizabeth Holmes never blinks. I am not making this up. It is her personal quirk along with the her black turtleneck, which she recently abandoned. Sorry for the thread drift. It takes great effort not to blink. As tatorodd noted, caffeine and stimulants boost eye blinking for a lot of people. From Google: Elizabeth Holmes doesn't blink. Some have speculated that this was a conscious mind-control tactic on Holmes's part designed to dominate the people around her (in the same vein as her deep, lush baritone, which reportedly was her way of attempting to be taken seriously as a woman in Silicon Valley

I had the same issue. My eye doc said it was most likely "dry eyes". The tear ducts get clogged. He suggested I wash my eyes with Baby Shampoo being careful to wash the area at the base of the lashes and corners. He also suggested I start using Systane Eye Lubricant. So far, so good.
