Haven't bought an AR in years and am aware they are hard to find especially top tier rifles. I just saw a BCM Recce 11 sell for $2400 NIB on gunbroker, which is $1000 over list.. is this a pretty common/typical price these days, or will I do better if I shop around? Seems nuts, and no I haven't been following guns/ammo prices closely, but I know they are high -a simple "yeah that's about market these days" will do. Also happy to hear any leads on one, and and recent prices paid. thx and happy new year.

A quick check of the sold rifles shows that they were mostly listed at fairly reasonable prices. It's not the sellers' fault that there were bidding wars or desperate folks making the final prices what they are.

I always wonder how many of those ridiculously high auctions are actually completed. If you want to see something crazy, check out closed auctions for Colt LE6920 SOCOMs with the Property of US Government marked lowers.

A recent example:

So did I miss the part where you said you are buying two of them?

You could get a 2011 in 10mm instead.

Prices where I live are still 10% over cost at the biggest LGS. Another store is doing the same. Others are pricing a little higher than that for some items, and one store marking a lot of things at full list price.

A new range/store opened up a little further away and they have plenty of AR inventory of the major names, plus 3 (!) SCAR 20s. Of course they don't have BCM except for the parts on the Springfield Saints. They are pricing about 10% over the lowest cost stores and won't budge on price because they are a chain of almost 30 locations in several states. But there's a 75% off deal on the first month of a range membership, so I joined at the top level ($59/month discounted to $15) to get a 5% discount on a few guns that brought the price down close enough to what I consider "normal". Plus they have product in stock, and not half empty cases like most other shops.

I really don't "get" BCM, or why they would sell for so much over list. They make very good quality mil-spec AR's and assemble them correctly, and are suitable to "go to war" with. They seem to have taken Colt's place in the "mil-spec" arena. But you can certainly build an AR with equivalent quality parts for a lot less, and upgrade various things with the difference. Or you can buy a DD, LMT, or FN for less then the overpriced BCM. And those companies actually do sell to the government. If was buying a complete AR now, I would just get a Geissele Super Duty from Brownells or Primary Arms for less than $2K normal price, and it's already got an actual military issue handrail, Crane-approved trigger, and a better-than-mil-spec BCG.

The only thing that is consistently pricing over list with any justification are HK SP5's and SP5K PDW's. They are in short supply and the future of importation is not certain. HK never seems to produce/import to fill demand for their most desirable guns. List is $2700 for either, and normal price would be around $2300 but the going rates are $3K+ for an SP5 and $4K+ for an SP5K PDW, if you can find one.

Secondary market Glocks seem to sell for a lot on Armslist even though they are available in stores at relatively normal prices. Selection is low and you have to check frequently because no one is keeping waiting lists now. Stuff moves too fast to bother.

Until just a few days ago when they went out of stock, AIM had complete BCM lowers (or complete pistol lowers with no brace) for just under $400. Based on my checking them more or less daily, I'd say they get BCM lowers in stock every 2-3 weeks, and they don't sell out for about a week.

No reason to spend absurd money on an auction when you can probably wait on a complete lower.

Finding a BCM upper these days, on the other hand....

I’ve sold to BCM rifles recently on GB. I had approximately $1440 a piece in them. One sold for $1900, the second sold for $2250. Things are clearly crazy right now
