The epitome of "gravel voice!" R. I. P.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Sorry to hear about that. RIP Leon, always loved your music and the growly voice.

I still have a couple of his rekkid albins.

He always seemed older than he was because of his musical style, which I have always enjoyed.

I read not too long ago how decades back, when Leon was doing the club scene, one of his biggest fans was a very young Bob Dylan. LR's choice of material may not be universal but I always appreciated him keeping the old stuff alive.

RIP Leon Redbone, thank you.

^^^^^^I've also read that Dylan liked Redbone, but given that Dylan is 78, and Redbone was 69, it may not have been a "very young" Dylan when he came across Redbone.

Nonetheless, I, too, was a fan. Saw him in a small club in Chicago in about 1978. Liked him then and since. RIP, Leon.

He was an artist who defied categorization. Blues? He did a great version of "Oh, Suzanna" which I don't think fits into any blues slot. Lots of his songs were like that-- not rock, jazz, blues, ballads. They were retro, and that's about as much as you can say.

I have too many favorites to name--and I love the monkey's choice-- but if you haven't heard, "Seduced" have a listen. It's sly, clever, and funny. And universal. Every hetero guy in the world-- this is our song. Big Grin In all the romantic fantasizing, the flatulent trombone is a hoot.

So long, Leon! Thanks for sharing your great talent, it was a delight to listen to you.

He opened for George Carlin here in WV back in....oh heck, 79-80? His sound stuck with me. Didn't he do Budweiser commercials as well?

Wonder if he ever found out what "Diddy Wah Diddy" really means?

And yes, long ago he did some "This Bud's for You" ads. Memorable in that they had a different style than their other ads at the time.
