A few months ago I posted a thread on "Where is the water?" In essence all the water that has ever been on the planet is here as it cannot leave, so where is it since we have all the drought?

FOUND IT!!

Those reports coming from the Sierras and Tahoe area are cringey. People have been trapped inside their cabins for days, running out of food, stuck in their vehicles, and there have been avalanches. All the ski resorts are closed from too much snow, a far cry from not too long ago they were struggling to stay open and relying on snow-making machines.

Holy cats. Keep an eye on the potential for flooding, too - buddy of mine was working there in the late 80's and early 90's, and showed me pictures of flooding in Truckee that blew me away.

I remember reading years ago that the stretch of roads around Donner Pass has the highest concentration of snow removal equipment in the country. It is well known that it can really dump up there.

I pray it doesn’t melt too fast. We need it to stick around and melt slowly.

This Florida boy spent a winter in Detroit. Snow can suck if you don't know how to handle it. I got a notice from the city complaining about my sidewalks. I had no idea that was on me. I asked a coworker to recommend a snow shovel and he just laughed at me. He then hooked me up with a service that cleans the sidewalks.

In the 1950s I lived on a corner in Detroit and had about 200' of sidewalk to shovel (I was a teenager and dad expected me to do it). I don't miss it.

Plan is to go to Tahoe area when the highways open up again.

I have KO2 on my AWD truck. I've been in light snow before and didn't have any issues. But I think there is considerably more snow now. While many roads will likely be plowed, there are some areas where they may still have snow on the ground. And/or fresh snow may come while I'm in the area.

Reading online, I get mixed messages about the competency of the KO2's in snow like what might exist in the Tahoe area these days. Would appreciate a SF expert opinion - I know it'll be realistic and not fanboy based.

KO2 good to go? Perhaps not as good as dedicated snow tire but should be okay except for the worst of conditions (ie - if somebody else is ahead of me on anything but dedicated snow tires, I should also be okay)? Or do I need to exercise additional caution with KO2?

Should I air down? If yes, to what level?

Bring chains that fit over your KO2s, all four of them...

I had Goodrich KOs on my Jeep. I was able to drive through heavy snow about 3 feet deep. Even though I had 4 sets of chains, I just didn't think I needed them. I was impressed.

I believe Hwy 80 opened early this morning to passenger vehicles.

You don’t air down in snow/ice. Your tires should be ok- not the best, but take it easy. I run a toyo open country at3 and have not had any issue nor had to chain up in any of the Tahoe weather this season. Where in Tahoe are you headed?

I’m mostly on the north side. Feel free to reach out if you hop up to that side of things…

Will do. Thanks!

Looking to do some snow mobile tours - Zephyr area was really nice before - checking in to that again. Seems like this year would be a good year to do it.
