KatnDog, as she's known on this forum, was bit by a very small coyote last week. Describing it as a bite is pretty generous description... it wasn't much more than a nip... in the butt.

Apparently, this is news in Connecticut and New York City. The "local" NBC news sent a camera crew to interview us.

It was no doubt the location (anatomy) of the bite that brought them out for pix Razz

Curious about the details of the nip. Was she attempting to feed it or rescue it or what?

Did the bite break the skin? Did the coyote show any sign of rabies?

How did the "local" NBC news find out about your coyote incident?

Coyotes are very adaptable creatures and look at other animals as either potential prey or something to fear. Yesterday, I heard we had several incidents in our development here in Arizona, just within the last week or two. I know a CA Department of Fish and Wildlife officer that told me attacks have increased in that state for some time.

Twice within the last three weeks, my wife and I were walking our dogs in the neighborhood, when we were chased by Javelina. The first time was particularly scary. I didn't spot the peccary until we were about 15-20 yards away and our greyhound barked before we could get away undetected. The pig had avenues of escape, but chose to come at us and we had to run over 100 yards (down the street, around a corner, and another half block plus) before it stopped. I sprayed a good sized cloud of pepper spray (OC) behind us and the chase was discontinued shortly afterwards.

The second chase occurred after the Javelina picked up our scent from about 50 yards, and though we had some distance on it, we had to go over a 100 yards before this one (maybe the same) lost interest.

In both these cases, there were no little pigs around and I believe the chases were based more on territorial instincts, the fact that Javelina HATE coyotes, and they don't differentiate between those and domestic dogs.

A few days after our last unpleasant encounter, I got these pics just a few doors down from our residence.
