Some also should explain to little Greta that she's unlikely to live to 30, and most likely will die during child birth.

Why?

Well before the 20th century and its medical miracles, that was the case. Want a smaller carbon footprint? Do away with all forms of medical care. Not only do you avoid infrastructure and operational carbon costs, you get humans dying earlier of diseases treatable by modern medicine.

Antibiotics = none.
Anesthesia = ether.
Cardiac drugs = digitalis.
Antidepressants = none.
Analgesics = alcohol, aspirin, laudanum, morphine, and raw opium.

Lengthy article written by Greta's mom. Mainly about Greta's problems and how she became a warmer warrior:

Thanks, TAC! Great stuff.

And thanks, Para for letting it be posted!

A whole lot of people should see that!

Here's an idea to help curb pollution, significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption, clean up the oceans and rivers, create tons of jobs, and be more renewable in general, on an enormous scale...

...ready for it?

Replace most diesel powered container ships with wooden sailboats, when timeliness/freshness doesn't matter. Fidget Spinners/etc don't need to get here quickly, but food does. Different modes are fine.

Wind is free, Wood is sustainable, Sails don't cause pollution, and it would take a shitload of them, so tons of jobs milling and building and sailing and maintaining them, at a cost of Speed of delivery and Capacity.

There are currently approximately 10,000 container ships in service, many of which use an enormous amount of diesel *by the hour*. Tons of diesel. Literally. And a gazillion tons of steel each, which is finite and pollutes more than wooden ship building.

We mastered sailing aroind the globe ages ago.

No engine necessary.

Today I bought some hot dogs in a plastic pack. Hot dog buns in a plastic bag. Some clamps in a bubble pack. All this went into a horrid plastic bag that’s killing the earth. Worse, only the plastic bag is acceptable to recycle.
