Prepper Alert: Ice Storm of the Century heading for the South
An actual 1” of ice would be devastating, trees, branches, & power lines down. An honest 1” of ice is also on the top end of accumulation with an ice storm.

I thought the main storm wasn’t going to ramp up until Friday night or Saturday morning. That’s time for some shifting & forecast adjustments.

Not much up here besides cold. We did get 5” of snow yesterday, not uncommon.

Where are you seeing that? I'm in Berks County and keep seeing 6-10 inches.

Being just northeast of the upper right of that map, it predicts greater than 16" for me.
That's a good amount of snow. Nothing I can't handle with my snowblower, but it will take some work.

Snowfall totals for us have trended higher for the past couple days.

Now sitting at 9-12 inches, with a decent possibility of overperforming that.

But they're calling for 1-2 inches of ice in the southern half of Arkansas. 12+ inches of snow is annoying and will shut things down up here for a few days, but 1-2 inches of ice is catastrophic, with downed power lines and collapsed buildings, and areas without power for weeks. I hope it isn't as bad for them as it's looking.

Warmer in south Texas Smile. In my neck of the woods in North Texas, 8 degrees is the forecast for Sunday night.

Kinda something for those not in hurricane areas to prep for. My son was in FL 8+ years ago as a hurricane threatened. He said it was more interesting watching the craziness at the stores, almost fighting over a sheet of plywood.

This particular storm took a turn, away from the ‘treasure coast’, the name was Dorian.

Even without going to the store, I could be fine for a month or more with what I already have, food & water.

I stopped into the grocery store last night for a couple things.

Ground meat, bread and milk were in very short supply.

We're good for a couple weeks in a pinch. As long as we don't lose power, I'm not too worried.

Those of you in the bullseye, take a few screenshots of the forecast 24 hours prior. During & after the event, compare those predictions to reality.

Not saying they will, but often reality is markedly different.

The Next 10 Days Of Winter: The Worst In 40 Years Across The US

Total Snowfall Amounts (NOAA Blend of Models -- trust this b/c it includes the ECMWF or Euro flagship model) may be an underestimate (!)

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
