Prepper Alert: Ice Storm of the Century heading for the South
People up north will get two inches of ice, then two feet of snow, no power for weeks. People will be dying of hypothermia, thirst, starvation, malnutrition, locusts and plague. And everyone down south are worried about their swimming pools!

Up north everyone runs to the store and buys 5 gallons of milk and 5 loaves of bread.
Down south everyone runs to the liquor store. Hell yeah!

Picked up a bottle of whiskey last week; that makes a bottle each of Scotch, bourbon, and cognac. Ten rolls of TP. 12 cans of SPAM. 36 MREs. Two sleeping bags. Ammo. If the power stays on, I may do a J.R.R. Tolkien writings inspired movie marathon.

Of course, it stops just short of NM. We haven't gotten much of anything this winter.

I remember this one from 1998 although I was not in Canada at the time:
Many power lines broke and over 1,000 transmission towers collapsed in chain reactions under the weight of the ice, leaving more than 4 million people without electricity, most of them in southern Quebec, western New Brunswick and Eastern Ontario, some of them for an entire month. At least twenty-five people died in the areas affected by the ice, primarily from hypothermia, according to Environment Canada.[8] Twelve more deaths and hundreds of millions of dollars in additional damage were caused by the flooding farther south from the same storm system.
The bridges and tunnels linking Montreal with the South Shore were closed because of concerns about weight tolerances or ice chunks falling from the superstructures. All but one power linkage to the island of Montreal were down for several days,[9] disabling both of the city's water pumping stations.[10] When power was restored, parts of Montreal remained impassable due to large chunks of ice falling from rooftops, which endangered pedestrians and motorists; large portions of Old Montreal and the downtown core were cordoned off by police due to the dangers of large sheets of ice falling from buildings.

Pretty sure him and Geraldo are related.
Based on my Murphys Law prediction my area south of Atlanta might be in trouble. How my prediction works if the people are not panicking, we are going to get clobbered, when they are panicking nothing happens.
Stores looked pretty calm and that worries me.

"Here is a look at the last 24 hours from the ECMWF valid for Saturday night then Sunday morning and you can see how things have trended warmer for spots."
Isn't if funny how that always seems to be the case.
I'd venture to say that about 80% of the areas projected to be TEOTWAWKI!!!!!!111!!1! might get a little rain or a skiff of snow.
I pay little to no attention to these loudmouths crying wolf anymore. It's all about clicks and nothing more.
Regarding the storm? It's winter time. Who doesn't expect inclement weather in the winter?

People are already closing businesses and cancelling stuff off a damned forecast 3 days out even though the forecast is changing every 12 hours (i.e. it's looking better for Houston).

Honestly, I think I'm pretty set if cut off for a week or two.
I'm not prepared for a roof collapse nor a large tree falling on the house. I'm not even sure how anyone would prepare for something like that, other than buying a neighbor's house.

At least, with the bitter cold that follows a snowstorm, if your power goes out, you can still keep your frozen food, just put it outside.

Since we have a pumped septic system, an extended power outage means pooping in a bucket. Not fun.
I need to find an alternative.
Ideas?

^^^I’ll see if I can generate some.
Barring a generator, does your pump have a manual on switch such that you could pump the holding tank empty before the storm?
I’m glad you mention this as our new to us home has a lift station to the septic system. We’re going to need a generator for that.
