54 inside? Eek Are you part Inuit? I’d be divorced or dead, maybe both, before my wife would let the temp inside drop anywhere near there. Big Grin

I suspect quite a few people down here will be buying new batteries in the next few days. My wife’s Explorer was a little sluggish starting this morning.

Stay safe.

Well it’s 25° again here in central Texas. It did start melting yesterday and I managed to clean two tracks in the driveway for Mrs. Mike to go into work and more importantly, return.

She “had” to go into because several workers had made it into the office to begin payroll. So she felt she had to feed them because the onsite cook wasn’t in. (Mind you these are grown people who can plan their day).

So while I was scraping the driveway, Mrs. Mike managed to let Luna the cow-pig-dog slip between her legs. Btw, Luna is a known runner. So I got to wander after her. And wouldn’t you know it, I fell on ice in someone’s frozen driveway. Did I mention we had an inch of ice on the ground. Yeah…..good times.

[Waylon Jennings] it was about that time, that Mrs. Mike drove up.

“You OK?”
“No, get in your truck and go cut off the dog before she gets under a fence”
“Ummm”…
(Sailor words were muttered)

We did eventually capture her.
I do have a hurt shoulder(that’s already jacked up), elbow and hip.
The dog got her zoomies in for the day.
Mrs. Mike fed her people(who are grown and have cars and shoulda packed a lunch).
And now I’m up because I’ve been laying in bed in pain since 0400 when the Tylenol and whisky wore off.

They did cancel school again today, so the kiddos will be home buggin their parents today as well.

Oh, the Tomminator saw a fatal single car accident on his way back from his girlfriend’s house. Apparently they don’t mention black ice here in central Texas and some one was going along at the regular speed of 65, hit some ice, went off the road, rolled over and killed himself in the wreck. Glad he follows his gf’s advise and “just drive slow”.

Y’all have a great day.

You probably already know this, but Tylenol and alcohol is not a good combination. Bad for the liver.

Lol, well when she mentioned that her mom had called her from Florida and told her to go down the street to their house (they have one up here too) and crank up the heat if I was too cheap to turn on ours, I figured I should take that as a "hint" and make some changes before I had a full-on mutiny on my hands. Personally I was perfectly happy to just huddle by the fire, lol.

54's a little cold for me too but it isn't horrible. I'm heating with wood and shutting the air back on the stove at night so I don't have to get up and feed it so often really reduces the heat. I had to turn the heat pump (which is set on emergency) down because set at 59 it was coming on at night. Now it's set at 52 and hasn't come on. The downstairs room temp is around 55-58 when I come down in the middle of the night to add wood, bedroom upstairs is a little cooler.

Yeah vehicles with a weak battery may not start, even ones with good batteries might struggle at these temps.

I hope everyone's putting out a little feed for the birds during this cold snap.

The South; NC/SC/GA might be the ones getting really whacked with this next big snowstorm and not necessarily the Northeast. Eek

The mailman got to deliver mail today, a sure sign that the recovery (though possibly short-lived, given this weekend's forecast at the moment) is ongoing. Apparently one of the bakeries made deliveries today, and I scored a fresh loaf of bread.

But of course, while I was in the grocery store, I forgot to get a bottle of Frank's Hot Sauce (nod to one of Para's threads) Fortunately, there was a small bottle of Cholula way back in the cabinet.

ETA: grocery store was full of workers stocking shelves this morning (1/29). More trucks rolled in. Getting ready for the weekend rush I guess.

Drove though northern Mississippi yesterday and I55 and I22 were closed. Skirted them on back roads that were like rough cobbles with snow and ice. They don't know how to drive in it there. Added 3.5 hours to my 11 hour trip. Delay caused me to miss throwed rolls at Lambert's. Garmin, apple, and ways didn't warn or reroute.

I was amazed that the interstate highways in Mississippi either had never been plowed, or were only plowed once early in the snow/ice event. Once I got past the closed area of I55, it was one lane seemingly cleared by moving traffic.

The repair of downed power lines seemed to be just beginning.

Yes and no. Pool salt uses finer grains which isn't as effective and will usually require more of it to do the same job.

Come to my neighborhood and shovel it off the streets. They cleared the roads down to asphalt then put down a ton of road salt. One could float the Dead Sea with it.

RECORD TEMPERATURES IN SWFL!

Yeah, bullshit. I know it’s been colder than this because I was the one fixing the frozen pipes at the church. Turns out the record the longest streak of days since the last time the temperatures were below freezing. Just dumb since everyday after the previous streak had been surpassed was a record setting day.

Eastern NC where I live had 10" of snow with this Nor'easter. Coast where I have family got 15" (Morehead City). Very unusual for us. Temp this morning was 13 degrees. Supposed to be sunny and just above freezing by Noon. I'm ready for Spring!

Got ~8-9 inches of snow over the weekend. It seldom snows this much at a time here. As of the time of this post, 2°F.

I have to say, for the last 25 years I’ve had to work every hurricane or snow mess or whatever as an emergency services worker of some variety.

This is the first time my work position didn’t require that. And although I was available and ready to, if it changed, it’s damned nice. Zero desire to be out on these roads.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.
