That's not the best situation for the sand, but they may be standard for your truck. Regular highway tires (B) are best because they flex when aired down.

It's a special rim that has a ring that bolts to it, and prevents the "bead" which is the rubber coated cable reinforcement on the inner ring of the tire that forms the mating surface with the rim, from separating from the rim, and letting all your air out.

You need them when your tires are going to be under low pressure and doing a bunch of flexing for traction, contact patch, and going over obstacles.
