I know guys, plz be patient. So between the two it is about >$300 month. Which I am guessing is probably about the going rate for the two combined. So the question becomes I can stream Direct TV away from my house using a smart tv if I have internet at other locations. Which I would really only need while I am out at these other locations intermittently. What inexpensive services are there for internet to use occasionally away from home mostly to stream tv? I would prefer not to dump direct tv at home to go 100% streaming all the time. Thanks guys. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I moved to Gigabit internet service (from local cable company) and got rid of cable TV service. I signed up for YouTubeTV which has everything I would want from cable TV service, plus some extra cool features. I use AppleTV boxes for my TV's, but can also use phone or iPad or computer. If I want premium channels like HBO I can just sign up for their apps. About $85 a month, but there are some free first month and discounted first few months offers.

I’m not sure about DirecTV. Comcast had streaming away from home, but if you weren’t in your local area, you wouldn’t get local channels and the sports broadcasts were limited as well. We’ve been trying 100% streaming with YouTube TV. It lets you stream local channels while you are away for short periods, but you have to sign in on you “home” network every once in awhile. You can change your “home” network twice a year which covers us for MI in the summer and FL the rest of the year. You get whatever local channels you’ve set your “home” to be. After 5 months though, my wife is still having trouble with user interface. She’s having trouble recording shows, selecting live shows, pausing live shows and coming back to them, etc. I don’t have these problems, but I’m not doing it as much.

It feels like starlink is about my only and best option. How much am I looking up (start up and service) Also sounds like I can stop and start service as I would need it as I move their system from location to location? "Practice like you want to play in the game"

https://starlink.com/us They have a startup rate of $59 a month for the first years service, no upfront equipment costs, free setup (select areas only) normal rate is $80 a month although my address shows close to $400 up front fees for equipment and $80 a month so ATT's deal is significantly better. It's an interesting option. What provider(s) do you have. We have Spectrum that sends me offers of $40 a month for a year or so then normal rates after. ATT Fiber and a new company WOW! internet fiber both are about $60 a month for 1 GB service. We use ATT Fiber 1GB for internet, I too have DTV, for some reason they gave me a better rate for keeping the main box, we deleted the other wifi boxes and remotes to lower the rate and run the DTV app on firesticks without issue, it's actually better since it doesn't show all the PPV stations and you can setup favorites easily, watch on the phone or anywhere with the app. I am considering dropping DTV and saving the $100 plus a month, as I have other streaming services such as Netflix that the wife likes, I don't watch it, also dumped T-Mobile for ATT and that dropped free AppleTV which is fine we never watched it.

YouTube TV will work perfectly for you at all locations. All you need is an internet connection and smart TV or a Roku stick with YTTV app installed at each location and you can also watch on iPad/iPhone on YTTV app there. We do it all the time now. You will no longer need DirectTV at all. Easy to use and basically is a virtual cable TV box. I find that it's as fast as a real cable or sat TV box too. Sounds like you're asking about an internet connection when you are away from home? Starlink, of course, but also... If you have cell phone service, you can probably use your phone as a Hotspot and connect your tv to it. Also, Verizon has a cheaper "backup" internet plan for when your regular internet service is out. Dont know if you could use that away from home or not, but worth checking out. Or, just watch a streaming service directly on your cell phone if its just you. I do that a lot Btw, I use Youtube TV and like it a lot.

I am also mid-switch. I've just tried You-Tube TV and for me it has sucked. TV is slow to sign-in sometimes it worked and others I must turn tv off. Movies didn't play even tho it said it was available, and even the commercial worked. I must have sent 40 feedback reports in 2 weeks. Even 2 of those didn't work, lol. Cancelling this week. Next is a comcast cable selection, then I'll add something for movies. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

What were you using to run YTTV? What is your connection? Sounds like more a connection problem or hardware issue than a YTTV issue to me. Ours has been just the opposite, in fact I'm surprised at how quick the whole thing is, other attempts at streaming TV have been frustrating with laggy interfaces etc but YTTV has been as good as having a physical Comcast cable box right there at the TV. Our TV is a TCL Roku TV and internet is 100 Mbps Comcast cable internet service.

Thanks guys. Not wanting to give up Directv as my wife is used to it and streaming is more labor intensive and do not want multiple services to try to manage. From what I can determine right now it is $299 for the mini starlink system and $50 a month. Trying to determine if I can turn it on and off when I want to. If so that would be pretty cheap to have mobile internet with adequate bandwidth and probably stream apple tv for $10 month. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I upgraded to 1 gig comcast fiber optic, their wifi router. Sony smart TV. My phone and TV are all that are on it. TV is up to date. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

I turn off TV while watching on live tv. When I turn back on sometime later, about half the time it shows error message. Other half it comes on where I left it. Few times it did not load anything, just buffering...buffering...buffering like 3 min and I do not know if longer because I just shut it off out of frustration. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis
