rtquigDo you remember a few months back 2 students suspended....
In my town in NJ a few months ago 2 students were suspended for have posted pictures of them at a range shooting. NJ2AS got involved and the outcome looks pretty good. Today I received this email.
Richard --
For those that are unaware, two high school students in Lacey Township were recently suspended for posting pictures of themselves at a shooting range. Although the questionable pictures were never made public, and the school is barred from discussing student situations due to privacy laws, NJ2AS immediately prepared for best case and worst case situation to address this issue.
The worst case? School officials digging their heels in and joining the national war on the Second Amendment. The best case scenario would be officials turning the situation into a positive moment and allowing NJ2AS the opportunity to properly train students on how to safely and responsibly handle a firearm.
NJ2AS President Alexander Roubian spoke at the Lacey Board of Education meeting in the aftermath of the suspensions, offering school officials the opportunity to allow NJ2AS to sponsor a day at the range for students. Most importantly, we wanted to bring the topic of firearm safety to the forefront by providing students with basic training - a common sense measure which could save countless lives throughout America.
Since then, NJ2AS has been overwhelmed with interest from parents, and most importantly, the students who have contacted us to sign up. Part of NJ2AS’ message included the many Olympian and top competitive shooters who began their careers by accident - casually participating with a friend or family member at the gun range.
Case in point, Matt Emmonds - a gold, silver, and bronze winner at the Olympics who began his shooting career after he went to the range with his father’s friend. Ironically, Matt grew up only 30 minutes from Lacey in Brown Mills.
Moving forward in a proactive and professional manner, NJ2AS turned a negative into a positive without any litigation and/or waste of gun owner resources - a spectacular turn of events in New Jersey. Although it’s very important to be aggressive, this is an example of finding balance and not turning off those who may had made a mistake, but would be willing to work towards an amicable solution.
After speaking to the superintendent several times, the school board and the principle, NJ2AS is confident we are going to develop a long standing relationship to work together and not against each other. This is why it is important to not always come out guns blazing and threaten costly litigation as an initial reaction.
With that being said, we are ecstatic to announce a firearm safety and training day for Lacey students on May 20, 2018. This event will be hosted specifically for all Lacey students who are interested… FREE OF CHARGE! Safety training, firearm instruction, firearm rentals, ammunition, targets, range time AND catered lunch will be provided for free, saving each student $300! School administrators, teachers, and family are also invited.
We cannot thank our Platinum sponsor Union Hill Gun Club enough for their generous offer to donate their resources for the students. This will save each student almost $300 each! Students and their families MUST register since we are limited to 100 participants.

bald1Confused.

No mention of how the suspended duo were handled. Was their suspensions overturned? Their records cleared?

Nice report Rich!
As a fellow member of the NJ2AS, its a good approach to educate and inform those who are only getting bad info from the extreme liberal newspapers in NJ.

After reading it once, I too was wondering if I missed this important tidbit.
Thanks for saving me the effort to read it multiple time looking for what wasn't there.

c1steveYes, the liberal heads are fuming until they explode. Keep it up, NJ2AS, good work. Lots of parents are wondering how this came about, as though they were swindled.

dsmackBald1's question needs a definitive answer...
Were the two students reinstated without the misguided suspension remaining on their school records?
If not, all the feel good verbiage about "working together", etc. is BS. Those two should be fully exonerated and made whole, or this remains a travesty.
