Would appreciate some solid recommendations.

Want to build an ancestral graphics tree. Needs to be simple to use although as we have managed to trace back to the late 900's, so LOTS of ancestors to map. Big Grin

I use MyHeritage Family Tree Builder. I like it better than the product used by ancestry.com. You can get a free download here: https://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder

I took a look at all of these. The one I chose was Family Tree Maker.

https://www.mackiev.com/ftm/

I use Ancestry and then drop the file right into FTM.

Im over 300 people in my tree.

Fathers side back to 1600's. Mothers side only back to early 1800's.

Oh, also recommend getting a subscription to NEWSPAPERS.com.

You can get A LOT of good data there...dates, events, more clues, etc.

FINDAGRAVE.com is also good for fining burial info.

I took a trip last fall and found the colliery site my Great-Grandfather died. Found the paper clipping of the event has well. He died in a cave-in.
I have a piece of coal from the closed mine entrance.

I was not aware of that. My paid Tree has 20,000 persons. I find the subscription fee acceptable for the value I get.

Just curious. Where do the majority of your roots come from?

My "tree" seems to fit my DNA spit test, mostly from northwestern Europe, incl Celtic, Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon.

Pay attention to the information you are handing over for a graphic.

Apps on your computer which don’t require an internet connection are ok.

I'm also looking at LibreOffice (suggestions for Visio had me check this out) as my quick look at RootsMagic doesn't make manual entry easy preferring to import data from everything from obsolete PAF files to....

My oldest male ancestor came from Flanders (border of France and Belgium). He was a Privateer for Queen Anne and came to Pennsylvania in the 1600s. My dad's line through his mother is British (Watts, Clemens, and Websters). My mom's ancestors were German and Dutch. She was a 2nd generation American. From this you can see that my ancestry is almost wholely northwestern European.

For clarification, I already have done my research. I just want to be able to plug in the ancestors and anecdotal information in a graphics tree display.

Using a draw program like that in my libreoffice is just too time consuming.
I've now looked at a bunch of free packages and have whittled it down to two that I'm investigating further:
-- GRAMPS https://www.gramps-project.org...x.php?title=Download
-- My Family Tree by Chronoplex available from Microsoft Store and other sites

^^^^^ I just quick looked at both of those. I'd say go with the GRAMPS tool if those are your options. I'll stay with Family Tree Builder from MyHeritage.

If you could find somewhere to download PAF 5.2 (Personal Ancestry File), that would do the trick. That was the free software provided by the LDS Church, but was discontinued in 2013. Perhaps you can still find it somewhere on the internet.

That’s it. I don’t know if it works under Win 10. You could use a virtual machine running XP if you had to. It was an outstanding program.

Family Tree Builder from MyHeritage required that I sign up as member of their website. Plus again free version is quite limited to number of ancestors that can be entered. Pass!

And as far as this PAF site ( https://personal-ancestral-fil...re.informer.com/5.2/) if you looked closely it says that there isn't a download available. Comments indicate it also is incompatible with Win10.

UPDATE: Found it and installed it under Win10... see my latest post on page 2
