I know Instant Pots and sous vide are somewhat popular topics, here, so... A couple weeks ago, doing boneless ribs in the slow-cooker we've had for probably 25 years and they didn't come out right, my wife said "I think it's about time for a new slow-cooker. This one isn't working quite right any more." Today, at Costco, came across Instant Pot Duo SVs for $70. I don't know what they normally cost, here, but amazon.ca lists them for CDN$180. (I don't see an exact equivalent on amazon.com. The Duo SV has 14 programs, incl. one for sous vide.) We grabbed one "America is at that awkward stage. Too soon old, too late smart |
A few days ago Costco was selling the 6 qt. Duo for $80 USD. That is a decent price. Your use of your cook top will be dramatically reduced. They are incredibly useful. Santa will be bringing some of the family their own I-Pots this year. Haven’t even thought about sous vide or many of the other features other than sauté, pressure and keep warm.

Our slow-cooker was used mostly for boneless ribs, sometimes BBQ, pot roast at Christmas time, and baked beans. I suspect, from all I've read and heard, this Instant Pot will see much more use. We bought one right before the sale. Regardless, we have cooked 2 beef roasts, cheddar broccoli soup, yogurt, and Dr. Pepper pulled pork roast since then. All have been excellent. We gave away our rice cooker, pressure cooker, slow cooker as this one device does it all. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. You'll find tons and tons of recipes online to experiment with the new toy. Hmmm... maybe my wife's search-fu is off, this morning, because she said she's not finding much. We took a pass on the Instant Pot cookbook Costco has because we assumed recipes would abound on the 'net. Now she's considering heading back over there to buy the book. Honestly, most recipes can be converted to IP recipes pretty easily as soon as you figure out how long most things take to cook. Throw everything in there, make sure you have adequate liquid, and let it do it's thing. For recipes, check out Le Creme de la Crumb. It isn't instant pot specific, but she does have some and everything I've tried has been amazing. It's become my go to site when I'm looking for something new. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Never miss an opportunity to be Batman! |
The Instant Pot has actually made me into a good cook. Couple times a month, I invite family over for dinner and a movie. The Instant Pot meals I have cooked up have been great. I made Italian Roast Beef with potatoes and carrots last time. Some had the roast beef sandwiches. Pot was empty in no time. There are a couple of different channels on Youtube for Instant Pot Recipes: Six Sisters' Stuff is my favorite, short easy recipes. I am going to do the Cheesy Alfredo with Chicken this coming weekend. Pressure Luck Cooking is good just that some of his recipes are more involved and require additional unusual cooking items (thank you Amazon!).

Thanks for the hints, guys! I forwarded to my wife a link to this thread, and that of an earlier thread on IP recipes. I also ordered for her a couple IP cookbooks off Amazon that she felt looked good and are highly-rated. "America is at that awkward stage.
