Does anyone know the vintage and or history of this item that has been in my family for years. I recall it in Dads DVM hospital when I was single digits old (1950s)

Mother passed 3 weeks ago at 100. Dad died in 1993. I have to clean up, sell or dispose a lot of stuff. Sadly my modern kids are not very interested in "old stuff". Great kids though, helping with all the business at hand.

That looks like an officer’s desk in their quarters on a ship.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Other than being gray, I had one just like it in my stateroom on my first ship. It was a combination desk and chest of drawers.

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

Have you looked at the bottom or pulled drawers out to see places that aren't normally visible?
My guess would be WW2 to Korea.

The ship where I used one was built in 1942.

Interesting that all the Navy guys (including me) recognize the desk, but we're not hearing from the Army guys telling stories of using this green version. Have you scratched the paint to see if it was originally gray?
