Thanks for it all, Mac -- Dr. John moves to the everlasting gig
Dr. John died yesterday. What a body of music and performance, what a life. One of my all-time favorites. Always on around me as a kid and into my twenties, and I took his music with me wherever I lived around the country (and when I traveled abroad), introducing him to whoever I could.
In the 1970s, "If I don't do it, somebody else will" was my creed.

Dr John is always in my music library, two weeks ago I cycled through three CDs while doing a 4 hours drive. He was a great talent and will be missed.

Another fine musician from that age group gone.
Godspeed, Dr. John.
This article has links to 12 good Dr. John tracks.
I was fortunate to have been at his last public performance in 2017

snwghst -- are you going to try to go over for Kermit Ruffin's second line this afternoon? I'd love to drive down for it, but picking up kids and a hard deadline are conspiring against me.
Kermit and the BBQ Swingers had a weekly gig at the club I worked at on Magazine. Always entertaining, but, damn, back in the day you could get a contact high standing next to him

Possibly... seeing how the rest of my work day goes, going to try
I will be at Tips tonight for Johnny Sketch and the Dirty notes, that will probably be a celebration also since a few of the members knew him well
I remember when Kermit had his Thursday night residency at Vaughns
I’ve been enjoying reading many of my local musician friends stories. Papa Mali, Brian Stoltz, Mike Doussan, John Fohls etc etc etc and many other whom toured and played with him over the years

RIP Dr. John.
You were outstanding, and your music will endure the test of time.
Best concert I ever went to...

at the Harborlights Boston venue, an open-air tent on the waterfront. I knew about BB, didn’t care much for the Nevilles, but became an instant fan of Dr. John.
