I've never been impressed with either Home Depot's or Lowes' lumber, and the quality seems to be trending even further downhill. We're lucky enough to have a local builder supply store that's open to the public, and they tend to have decent lumber.

That's odd...I get the mil discount any day at HD. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. Thank you Very little |
Typically hit Lowes, it's easier to drive to, meaning we miss the big mega intersection with the long lights, which for some reason, we always just miss the light. Even though they are a mile apart and the same distance from our home, the path we take to Lowes is an easier drive. There is a dunkin do-nuts by Lowes and a liquor store. OTOH, Cavaliris Deli and Micky D's are by Home Despot... From what I've read HD has a $500 limit for the Military discount of 10%, it's hit or miss at the stores on how they handle it. Lowes is consistent, either your phone number or my lowes card works. https://www.lowes.com/l/store-...itaryDiscountProgram .

I cannot talk to Home Depot; however, I have had some Lowe's stock for about 20 years. According to my Quicken software, my ROI to date on their stock is 1,627%. Not too bad, I guess. At least in my area, I do find the Lowe's stores cleaner and brighter inside than Home Depot. _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. In our town the Lowe's and HD are about a quarter mile apart. I've never seen more cars at HD than Lowe's - it's usually at least 1.5 to 2 times more cars at Lowe's. Personally I go to Lowe's about twice as often as HD - more selection. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

Lowe's has always been a somewhat cleaner and neater store than Home Depot but seems to be dropping the better lines! I went to Home Depot and bought a large amount of Makita power tools and Klein hand tools whereas Lowe's dropped these brands years ago. *************** "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition." - Rudyard Kipling

Lowe's and HD are about a block away from each other here. Lowe's wins hands down. Trying to find someone to wait on you in HD is as bad as Sears used to be. "Even if the world were perfect it wouldn't be." ... Yogi Berra

Company policy is that HD offers the discount everyday to retired and disabled veterans, but for us regular joes who did a tour and got out, it's Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Lowe's give us regular joes 10% everyday as long as you sign up for it, prove it, and now they are asking for ID at the registers if you ask them to look up your phone number.

Home Depot offers 10% off to military every day. They do require ID ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

Working as a tradesman, and as a homeowner. I've found them both to piss me off at times. As a percentage of times being pissed off, home depot is in the single digits, lowes is batting .600. when you have a problem at HD, they fix it, at Lowe's it's a fight. Only time I shop at Lowe's is if they have something significantly cheaper, otherwise it's HD. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Which one do you use? I've noticed there is a Ridout up here and I used them a lot when I was in central AR but a few guys at work have said TH Rogers is great to deal with as well. Planning to start building next year assuming the price of materials comes back down.

We've used the HD Curbside Pickup a few times. Partially because of I hate masks but mostly because they do all the work. Had a bunch of heavy items for the patio (rocks, cement, etc) where they pulled it all and brought it out to the car. It beats having to go in and pull it all your self, wait in line and drag it out to your truck.

I go to Lowes 90% of the time. I love their focus on Veterans. I use Home Depot for lumber and windows. Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies. Gene Hill

We have x3 Home Depots in the county and only 1 Lowes. I kind of like shopping at Lowes as it appears nicer and cleaner compared to the H.D..

Usually Meeks, but I've used Ridout before too. (They're actually pretty much next door to each other in Fayetteville.) Never heard of TH Rogers, but it looks like they're located further north in NWA.

Have never shopped at Home Depot, mainly because none close by. Always shopped at Lowe’s, they used to be great. Lately, though, they have not stocked a decent supply and finding help is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I’ve actually started going to Menards, as they had a better selection and had just opened up a new store last year just across the way from Lowe’s. But, I still go to Lowe’s first. Habit, I guess.

I hate both, generally only go to Home Depot as it is closer. When I do go I usually know what I need where it is, I get it and then get out as fast as I can. I don't ever expect any customer service or help. Lowe's went through management changes in an effort to turn the ship around. LOWE'S COMPANIES (NYSE:LOW) PRICE TARGET AND CONSENSUS RATING 33 Wall Street analysts have issued ratings and price targets for Lowe's Companies in the last 12 months. Their average twelve-month price target is $167.72, predicting that the stock has a possible downside of 4.34%. The high price target for LOW is $205.00 and the low price target for LOW is $106.00. There are currently 4 hold ratings and 29 buy ratings for the stock, resulting in a consensus rating of "Buy." Closing Orchard Supply https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/...-hardware/index.html Ellison joins Lowes https://fortune.com/2020/09/15...n-ellison-lowes-ceo/ So the story as I know it. 2 candidates were in line to become CEO of Lowes. Some Guy and Ellison. Some Guy like Orchard Hardware, Ellison did not. Guy got the job, Ellison quit and went to work as the CEO of JC Penny. Guy expanded Lowes by buying Orchard and growing its store base. Lowes continued to underperform. The Board fired Guy in 2018 and offered Ellison the job as CEO which he took. Since then. Ellison closed Orchards and has continued to find ways to cut costs in an attempt to fix Lowes. __________________________ My door is always open to Sigforum members, and I'm always willing to help if I can.
