“More than 2,000 people have been arrested in France as the country faces another day of violence from student rioters who have left at least 65 teaching staff injured.

Protests have been growing in size and aggression this week as young people take to the streets over grievances about the state of education.

The students say their school hours are excessively long, conditions are inadequate – including overheated classrooms – and that there are too many staff absences. The government says the complaints are legitimate but violence is not.

Riot police have been deployed across the country as young thugs set schools on fire and beat up teachers.

At least 65 staff members have been injured, including 40 high school principals, since the start of the movement, officials said. Some 170 students have been wounded while more than 100 high schools have suffered 'severe damage'.

Up to 400 schools across the country are set to remain closed today. Many high schools have also planned to conduct classes remotely, particularly in the southern city of Marseille. …”

The pictures I’m seeing look like mostly white French looking kids.

It’s not like the French don’t have a long history of violent civil unrest.

France: 500+ Schools Closed as Nation Braces for More Leftist Violence

Upwards of 500 schools across France remained partially or completely closed on Monday as the nation braces for a new, potentially violent wave of so-called student protests this week.

Per AFP, Education Minister Édouard Geffray detailed on Sunday that the shuttered schools do not presently meet the safety conditions that can warrant their reopening after a series of violent protests incited by far-left groups plunged France into total chaos last week.

Geffray reportedly detailed on Sunday some 24 schools across France were either set on fire or ransacked during the violent protests. At least 78 members of the French Ministry of National Education were injured.

The lack of proper security conditions, the minister stressed, is what led to the closure of the hundreds of schools on Monday — a precautionary measure that comes amid calls from student unions for more protests on Tuesday, October 6.

“Clearly, this poses a risk to both our staff and our students,” Geffray said.

Ummm, NO! The presence of morons with malicious intent is what is causing the schools to close, not the lack of security. Fuckwads - get the problem statement right so that it can be properly addressed.

French school protester arrested after ‘flamethrower’ attack on woman
quote:
French police have arrested a 15-year-old boy after video from the student protests showed a hooded suspect firing a makeshift flamethrower at a woman’s face.

The assault occurred on Friday in Marseille, one of several cities roiled by violent protests that forced the closure of hundreds of schools and led to clashes with police, teachers and firefighters.

In one of the most shocking pieces of footage to emerge from the riots, a person wearing a hood uses an aerosol can and a lighter to launch a burst of flame at a woman calling for an end to the vandalism.

The woman, dressed in a blue suit, appears to have been shoved against a bus stop by youths holding a yellow pedestrian barrier. As she recovers, the hooded individual calmly walks forward and sprays fire at her face, causing the woman, who is holding a shopping bag over one arm, to cower away and raise her other hand in an effort to block the attack.

French police made the arrest on Friday night and took the suspect into custody, according to the French TV news channel BFMTV. It was reported in Le Parisien that the woman had suffered first-degree burns.

Speaking to BFMTV, the prosecutor’s office said police were investigating an intentional attack that had caused a temporary incapacity to work of eight days or less, with three aggravating factors: the use of a weapon, wearing of a mask, and participation in a group.

Protests spread last month from impoverished French suburbs where students complained of overcrowded classrooms, poor facilities and absent teachers.

But much of the sympathy for the protesters has evaporated after chaotic scenes were caught on camera, including a police officer being beaten while unconscious and teachers being assaulted outside school gates.

In further footage, a young person wearing a hood runs up to a teacher attempting to put out a tree fire and douses him with petrol.

Nearly 2,000 secondary schools have been affected by the disturbances, according to Édouard Geffray, the education minister. At least 65 school staff, including 40 headteachers, have been injured since the protests began on Sept 21, he added.

About 170 students and 300 police officers have also sustained injuries.

In the eastern city of Belfort, students knocked an undercover police officer to the ground and then kicked him in the head as he lay unconscious.

“Everything will be done to identify the authors of this abject act,” said Laurent Nunez, the interior minister, adding that there had been 1,747 arrests on Friday for offences including throwing projectiles at “police, teachers, journalists and passers-by”.

An arson attack on the Nelson Mandela high school in Nantes caused extensive damage to much of the wooden interior of the eco-friendly school, which was built at a cost of €54m (£46m) in 2014.

Photographs showed a blackened floor covered in foam, sections of cladding torn from the walls, and iron poles.

Intelligence agencies reportedly told a crisis meeting on Thursday that the movement had been initiated by La France Insoumise (LFI), a hard-Left party led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is running for president in 2027.

Senior LFI legislators rejected the allegation, accusing the government of politicising the protests in advance of the French presidential election on April 18.

On Thursday, Mr Mélenchon called on students to use “only non-violent methods of struggle”, while other party officials said the protests had arisen from anger at “educational conditions that are completely unacceptable”.

On Saturday, Mr Mélenchon urged parents to attend the protests when they restart as schools open next week, wearing a “helmet or a white armband”. He said this would help protect students from police brutality.

Marine Le Pen, who is leading the polls in the run-up to next year’s presidential election, said National Rally, the hard-Right party she leads, would criminalise participation in riots.

“This is no longer about high-school student protests,” she said in a TV interview. “It is about riots organised by professionals and overseen by deputies from La France Insoumise.”

The flamethrower attack was among several violent incidents that took place on Friday in the southern province of Bouches-du-Rhône.

A fire engine was burned while firefighters were putting out a blaze that had been started in rubbish bins in front of the Saint-Exupéry secondary school.

There were clashes between police and students outside the Victor Hugo high school, where an entrance door was also set on fire.

“Our city is the scene of unacceptable violence, arson, and attacks against teachers, firefighters, journalists, and the people of Marseille – acts that no cause can justify,” said Benoît Payan, Marseille’s Socialist mayor, on X.

Meanwhile, Bally Bagayoko, the LFI mayor of Saint-Denis, was carried on the shoulders of a crowd of jubilant student protesters outside the gates of the Paul Éluard high school in the suburbs of Paris.

Earlier, he had said that “violence can be legitimate”, before adding that “every time we can avoid it, it’s better”.

Mr Bagayoko was filmed attempting to pull a burning rubbish bin away from the gates of the school before high-fiving and clasping hands with the students.

Anytime I get discouraged about things here, I can just read a few stories about the Europeans.
Many of their countries have not just let, but encouraged, these savages into their borders and given them taxpayer financed benefits.
Hard to see how any EU country can turn the corner since their neighboring countries have a large supply, even if they try to stop the madness.
