'Moderation' in a nuclear conflict is folly.

I am amazed it never came to this during the 60/70/80s. . .

It's called mutually assured destruction for a reason.

During my days in SAC, Mutually Assured Destruction was practiced a couple times a week.

This was as real as real could get when I was in Germany in the early 80s.

It was expected several times, and having the "horn" go off with no notice exercises a few times, we did not know if it was "Ella Fitzgerald or Memorex" until after the adrenaline dumped.

Compared to having been shot at a few times, this was much worse, and a few times, years later, it would sneak up and catch you in your sleep.

God bless President Ronald Began for having the balls to stare the Soviets down, and God bless every swinging dick and bad ass chick to hold up that right hand and sign that check.

And I hope my grandchildren hold onto the peace that was bought for them in the war that never was (but was).

Let’s hope we’re past that being a real possibility.

Anybody else notice the Ruskies flew an aircraft all across Germany, France, then Spain just to nuke Gibraltar? They didn't have any attack subs (with cruise missiles) in the entire Atlantic?

The scarey thing about scenarios such as this is that a bunch of military leaders actually sought out 'limited' nuclear war. In the 1950s, one American lamented that we did not obliterate the USSR when we had an overwhelming nuclear superiority. He stated something to the effect that the world would judge us (the US) for not ending the USSR when we had the chance. . .
