After 20 years of good service from my 22 ton splitter, I gave it to a close friend (it still runs and works quite well).

This allowed me to buy a new one and I went with the 30 ton. Thus far, nothing slows it down and I am very happy.

Looks like a lot of fun. I could totally see the joy of that. I split a lot of logs as a kid. With a sledge and a wedge. That looks a lot better.

Nope...not crazy at all. Splitting is a really peaceful time for me and it gives me a sense of accomplishmnent when I have a huge pile.

Nice splitter btw

Looks like a nice one! I notice the FAST label on it, is it noticeably faster than your old splitter? I think mine is about what you gave away (20+ ton) and while it powers through most anything I wish it cycled a little faster.

I have had the exact same unit for 2-3 years now and had no issues at all. As to the "Fast" sticker, it is ok, but I wouldn't call it fast, although I don't have anything to compare it to other than splitting with a maul. So in relation to that, yes, it is fast.

I started splitting wood more in my middle age and now senior years. Last time I split wood I had to limit myself to just a few pieces a day. If more speed is ever required, one of those would be worth the cost.

I would call it "Round House".

Maybe even have a 16"x 8" sign made for it.

Congratulations on splitter upgrade after so many years on the old one.

This very AM my own splitter will be in additional use, as the high winds the past 24 hours has left considerable 'new projects' to add to the unseasoned end of the wood pile.

After 40+ years of 'by hand maul', I bought a new electric inertial splitter a couple seasons ago. Magnificent, pretty silent, and 'fast' for sure.

I had one about that physical size, but not a 30ton. When my pole barn got broken into, it was taken, along with lots of good hand tools.
When I tried to replace it, I bought a big one.
I did not like the fact that it was about belt high. It would allow you to use it upright, but the first time I tried that one of the logs shot out with force right between my shins. Had I had my legs together, I believe it would have broken both legs.
After using it twice, it would no longer start and the pull to start it took a lot.
I took it back.
I still do not have another one.

for those of us not in the stump game,

what does a 30 ton splitter do that a 22 ton splitter won't ?

I did many years with a maul & wedges. I started borrowing a friends splitter more & more. I treated myself to my own splitter about 4 years ago. I now can take my time, split when in the mood.

Enjoy. Reminds me, time to change my hydraulic filter.

It will split more difficult pieces. Such as crotch pieces, or gnarly knots. I have a 30 ton splitter I made from scratch, and occasionally I encounter a piece it won't split.

Then ,do these machines have a pop off valve that will re route the hydraulic oil to avoid damage ,from excessive force?

Or does the operator just have to know when to back off the pump ?

You'll hear the relief valve squealing if you hold it against the stop. Won't blow a hose or anything, but if you don't have sense enough to let go things can overheat.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

So far I am loving the new machine. Its cycle time is about 11 seconds (the old one was about 18). It goes throught the notty and gnarly stuff without issue.

Bendable, it has been my experience that if it slows down it is up to the operator to know when to back it off.

Splitting wood with the splitter is therapeutic for me.

Oh if only I had discovered that a few decades earlier.
