PASig'Candyflation' Spooks Consumers For Second Halloween
Anyone else seeing this? We usually buy a couple large bags which last the 2 or so hours the trick or treaters come by on Halloween to our street.
This year a smallish barely 2 lb bag of assorted candy was 17 dollars at Walmart. Oh well, when it runs out the lights go out and that's that:

gearhoundsWhat do the “regular” (non-Halloween marked) candy prices look like? I like smarties candies and they seem normally priced when I get them. Is gouging happening to just the themed stuff? If so, just buy the non-holiday versions.

HRKWe got two bags at Costco, think they were $15 a piece but they are double the size of Wal-Mart.
The mixed pieces bags at Wal-Mart here were $13 to $17 depending on the mix...

M'headSigYesterday I picked up two bags of "fun-sized" assorted candy bars, 80 pieces to a bag, priced at $12 a bag.

scratchyWe did our normal couple of big assortment bags hoping for leftover Milky Way and Milk Duds. Now that I think about it, there were probably $10 - 11 each.
My stepdaughter closed on a house in Ocoee FL last week and asked the previous owner: "What about Halloween?" The reply was that they were the full size bar house.

RightwireI got a bag of 155 pieces for $15.99 so about $0.10 a piece. It was a mix of mini Hershey bars, kit kat, reeses cups, almond joy, and milk duds. Not bad really.

NismoBought 2 of those bags a few weeks ago. Probably ate about a third of one of the bags. We don't get many kids anymore so that should be enough or else I'll have to start handing out ketchup and hot sauce packets from Del Taco.

bendableEveryone thinks that Thanksgiving , Christmas and new years is a horrible time for people that require strict caloric discipline,
For me it's Halloween .
I went for 13 months w/o a snickers, hershy or baby Ruth bar.
And then , the Halloween bite size bags came out.

Too easy: Just don't buy 'em.
If you don't buy 'em you won't have 'em. If you don't have 'em you can't eat 'em.

400mTrick or treating is supposed to be from 3-7. It’s almost 6 and my doorbell has rung twice. I’m gonna have plenty of candy.

PASigWe went out to my wife’s parents street across town from us and on our own block. Seems like participation is much lower than previous years as far as houses giving out candy. I guess people saw the prices this year and said “NOPE”!

It was easy peasy for a month, not a problem,
Then this morning
They got marked down to less than half price.

TexasScrubIn the three Holloweens that I've lived in my house I haven't had a single trick-or-treater, but I still buy two bags of single Reeses peanut butter cups.
When will I ever learn.
If you're wondering, all the kiddos in my neighborhood go to the country club for their treat needs.

trapper189I’ve lived here for 23 years and I think I’m still the youngest guy in the neighborhood. If it weren’t for my kids, there’d be no kids. We go elsewhere for trick or treat and had no tricker treaters again this year.

RightwireI had bought another bag of suckers, tootsie rolls and dots around 130 count for a Trunk & Treat I did on Saturday. I think I gave out maybe 30% that night of this bag.
Combined I'd guess I had over 200 pieces to hand out and had about 15 left over. Including the handful of Almond Joy I kept for me

Oz_ShadowPrices were higher everywhere except Costco. Costco had their own premium chocolate mix and also a gummy/candy mix on sale for $16 each for multiple pound bags. Other stores seem to be marking everything up a lot more.
