I spotted this on the ground a couple weeks ago, got some good pix. N405AT belongs to Rotor Blade in Georgetown SC, their link has a video of the chopping chopper in action.

That's a new one. It would be great for the zombie apocalypse.

I was going to say nothing new as I've seen PG&E do that but I don't think they'd want to use that near their power lines.

The ones I've seen, people were doing the cutting while sitting on a helicopter.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I guess if the rail road owns the tree's then there is no problem.

or if they get permission from the tree owners , no one cares.

We watched what looks like this exact contraption while at work from the 4th floor window - trimming trees near I-20 and I277 in the middle of SC a year or so back. Crazy to see it - I remember thinking "I hope that guy read the operators manual for that thing..."

They have a quick release on these.. In case it gets hung up on a tree.. I am sure they are not cheap but it is better than losing a chopper.. And the pilot

More possibilities of railroad rights than this. For example, easements.

The forum has several landmen (aka right-of-way agents) who can speak more intelligently than me on the subject.

Those guys clear the power lines at our steel facility in Berkeley County S.C. It's pretty impressive to watch them in action.
