I’ve been getting an increasing number of unsolicited text messages regarding political candidates, polls, advertising, etc. Mostly I just ignore them and delete, or now with my iPhone “Delete and Report Junk”. Occasionally I’ll go to the trouble of texting “stop”.

But I’m on somebody’s list as “Donna”, and I am certainly not Donna, and I keep getting texts that start with “Donna..”. I was frustrated the other day and replied “Fuck off”. To my surprise, a few minutes later I received “you have successfully unsubscribed”. My new “go to” is now “fuck off”. It’s very satisfying.

Nice. When I was getting texts from the DNC or someone they represented, I entertained myself by insulting them. I know no one was reading my insults but it was fun to unleash without consequences.

I have tried both "f.u." and stop. While they may "unsubscribe" you, the problem is they just text from a different number. Doesnt slow them down a bit.

I have been considering putting a block on certain area codes, like 202 and 571. Both are D.C. area codes that I cant imagine ever wanting to get calls from. Can slways lift it after the election. Anyone done that?

The ones trying out names are, as I understand it, the Chinese scammers. They serve two roles: identifying active, real phone numbers, and trying to screw Americans out of whatever money they can.

I respond to all of these with the following, which is in both English and Mandarin to make sure all of the active filters catch it, none of which you can say on the internet in China. While opinions vary on what actually happens as a result, it ranges everywhere from social credit score being impacted to internet being shut off to visits from state police. Regardless, even if none of that is true, I've found it really satisfying to send this along with Xi the Pooh memes. Not yet have a gotten an actual reply or followup, and several times, I've gotten an automated "this text could not be delivered," which was new to me and also satisfying.

A few years ago, Beto's campaign spammed the crap out of Texas during his failed Senate bid. His campaign thought I was a hispanic female democrat (i.e. they were 0 for 3). It was during the whole walkaway movement so I responded with:

"I didn't leave the Democrat Party the Democrat Party left me. #WalkAway"

"Have you seen this #Walkaway video? <insert youtube link>"

"<insert staffer's name> It not too late for you to #Walkaway from the lies, hate, and violence"

I started getting passed up the ladder in the Beto campaign. Then I tore into them him for never having a real job, being a fake Mexican who wears bronzer, being an Irish-American culturally appropriating the name Beto, etc. They really didn't like the idea of hispanic female having these views so they kept engaging me, and since it was a rainy Sunday I had plenty of time.

Unfortunately, no matter what I type back to Winred spammers they never engage. Stop doesn't work, fuck off doesn't work, calling them fucking spammer scum doesn't work, etc.

You don't even have to donate, just write a note to your congresscritter.I wrote to Don Beyer asking him to consider voting against some bill or another, and have been dunned incessantly by the Dumbocrats ever since.

^^ This. I have never contributed to any campaign but I get inundated with political texts. My only connection is emailing my congressmen.

They just keep sending texts from different phone numbers. I have a worse problem with scam phone calls, which I posted about before. I get over 25 per day now. Phone on silence unknown calls, but it's still annoying.

My Mom was a lifelong Democrat . The last year before she passed we had her mail delivered to our house so my wife could take care of her bills , etc. Apparently Mom contributed to the DNC because I still get donation requests from them three years later . I remove anything with her name on it and write MAGA across it and stuff it back in the envelope . It feels good to waste their time and postage by returning it .

The CDC called me. I verified the number and it was legit. They asked me how I was doing.

That's were it went off the rails. I told them I was fine because I wasn't dumb enough to take the vax that they were cramming down everyones throat and now cancer is exploding, kids are having heart attacks and strokes, birth defects are up. You and the government that poisoned half of the country can go to hell. The guy said "ok" and hung up.

Very satisfying.
