Another Toro user here. Bought my first Personal Pace Super Recycler 25 years ago. It has the Briggs and Stratton engine. Still runs great but smokes when it gets hot. Only maintainence has been oil, filters, blades and belts. Two years ago I purchased the same model only with the Honda engine. Love it too.

I have been very happy with my Toro gas for the past 20 years. I would recommend Toro or Honda. I see neighbors struggling with electrics.

I mow an acre at the house and almost two acres at the cabin. I have transitioned to all diesel machinery now. (diesel is considerably more fuel efficient than gasoline powered machinery, but spendy for the machinery) For the places the diesel tractor can't go, we picked up a Stihl battery push style rotary mower. (steep roadside banks, 60" width tractor deck scalps the turf on the steep banks) The Stihl battery powered push rotary came with a bagger attachment, but I've never used it. This unit: https://www.stihlusa.com/produ...4e48d7a0553616ea1340 Fortunately, we already had the two batteries and the charger for a Stihl battery chainsaw, so the Stihl battery mower was purchased without batteries and charger. The hard part was locating a Stihl dealer that would sell the mower without batteries and charger, but eventually we did locate one and purchased. I have been very pleasantly surprised just how much lawn the Stihl battery mower will cut. And it's great not having another small gasoline engine with seasonal fiddling/non ethanol gasoline/fuel stabilizers. If the Stihl battery mower croaked, I would buy another without even blinking. I have slowly been changing all of my yard equipment to Ryobi electric and couldn’t be more happy. No more ensuring my gas is fresh or mixing 2-cycle oil. I have St. Augustine grass, which is thick and my mower with two batteries lasts for both my front and back yard. As soon as one battery dies, I put it in the fast charger so it is charged by the time I need it for the blower or whatever. My mower is self-propelled and will adjust the blade speed when it gets into very thick grass. Only thing right now is tonight I just got an email that my mower has been recalled due to a fire hazard. Obviously that would only be while a battery is in it for me would be when in use. The email said to call to find out how to get a replacement mower so I will call tomorrow and hopefully it is a fast replacement. NRA Benefactor Life Member

I have had great luck with a Ryobi 40 volt for a quarter acre lot. I have had it since the summer of 2018 and it's still going strong. I also have the blower and string trimmer. I would never go back to gas but I don't have a big yard either.

I am familiar with St Augustine grass and have cut it numerous times in a previous home in Houston. Bermuda is just on an entirely different level. I really appreciate all the advice here, but I don't think I want to chance using an electric mower on Bermuda, even though I would prefer it for many reasons. Para- please close this thread if you see fit. I am very grateful to everyone here for the advice. You have all collectively helped me with this decision. There were several great recommendations here, and I don't think I could have gone wrong with any of them. I went with the majority opinion and I have purchased the Honda 21" Nextite Variable Speed HRX217K6VKAD. .
