Google Pays Female Workers Less Than Male Counterparts, Labor Department Says.

Department’s claims don’t amount to formal charges; investigation is ongoing.

An investigation of Google Inc. has found it systematically pays female employees less than their male counterparts, U.S. Department of Labor officials said, a claim that adds to allegations of gender bias in Silicon Valley.

The Labor Department found the gender-pay gap during a routine probe into whether Google, a federal contractor, is complying with laws that prohibit contractors from discriminating against applicants or employees.

The department is suing Google to compel the company to disclose more compensation data for its investigation. At a procedural hearing before a federal administrative law judge in San Francisco on Friday, Labor Department Regional Director Janette Wipper said the agency “found systemic compensation disparities against women pretty much across the entire workforce” at Google, according to the Guardian newspaper, which attended the hearing.

A Labor Department spokesman confirmed the testimony.

Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc., said in a statement that “we vehemently disagree with Ms. Wipper’s claim,” which it said it heard Friday for the first time. The company said the Labor Department hadn’t shared the data or methodology it used, and Google’s internal pay analysis found no gender gap.

The Labor Department’s claims don’t amount to formal charges, and Janet Herold, the department’s regional solicitor, said its investigation is ongoing.

But, in an interview with the Guardian, Ms. Herold also said the department has received “compelling evidence of very significant discrimination against women in the most common positions at Google headquarters.” The government’s analysis indicates discrimination against women at Google ”is quite extreme, even in this industry,” the newspaper quoted her as saying.

The tech industry has been under fire for years over the large percentage of white and Asian male employees and executives. Tech firms have started initiatives to try to combat the trend, but few have shown much progress.

The industry is now under scrutiny from the Labor Department for the issue. The department sued software giant Oracle Corp. earlier this year for allegedly paying white male workers more than other employees. Oracle said at the time of the suit that the complaint was politically motivated, based on false allegations, and without merit.

Prostitute Who Gave Google Exec Fatal Drug Shot Is Deported

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Federal immigration officials said Friday they were deporting a California prostitute to Canada after she completed a jail sentence for involuntary manslaughter for giving a fatal heroin shot to a Google executive she had been entertaining aboard his yacht.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman James Schwab said a judge ordered Alix Tichelman, 29, deported to Canada because of her felony convictions connected to the accidental overdose death of Forrest Hayes in November 2013. She also pleaded guilty to a felony charge of administering drugs.

Immigration agents arrested her after she finished her jail sentence on March 29.

Schwab declined to disclose Tichelman’s immigration status in the United States or whether she was represented by an immigration attorney.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Wednesday that Tichelman holds a permit to permanently work and live in the United States. The paper reported that Tichelman was raised in Georgia and spent little time in Canada.

Police said a surveillance video at the harbor showed Tichelman at first panicking and trying to revive Hayes. Then it showed her casually step over Hayes’ body, finish a glass of wine and lower a blind before leaving the yacht.

Hayes had hired Tichelman several times previously. They were doing drugs and having sex the night he died, authorities said.

The high-end call girl was arrested eight months after Hayes’ death.

After Tichelman was charged in California, police in Milton, Georgia, took another look at the 2013 overdose death of Tichelman’s former boyfriend Dean Riopelle, 53. He was the owner of a popular Atlanta music venue.

Authorities said a panicked Tichelman had called Milton police, saying Riopelle had overdosed on drugs and wasn’t responding. Tichelman was not charged.

An autopsy report listed Riopelle’s death as an accidental overdose of heroin, oxycodone and alcohol.

I find most of the 'Compelling Evidence' of gender pay gap studies and evidence suspect.

If they use averages, i wonder if they are taking into account that women take significantly more unpaid leave, sick leave and maternity leave, and work less overtime.

Rarely have I seen such evidence state that women have a lower per-hour rate, or monthly rate. It usually states that women 'average' less per hour, month, year or whatever.

I suspect that statistics are being manipulated to show something that isn't true! Not uncommon, especially when the .Gov is compiling the statistics.

So, I guess gubbermint is now in the business of telling companies who they have to hire.

Women are just not cut out for some job types, as hard as it is for some women to understand.

Jobs that require heavy lifting, for example.

I sincerely hope this is some left over nonsense from the obummer reign.

How about things like longevity in the company or on a specific job? Of course to the gender war troops things like qualifications, physical capability, etc do not matter. Employer has to adjust everything to fit people who may not be equipped to handle the job. So, make the employer change the job requirements so anyone with a pulse can do it.

I note there is no evidence presented.

I see it differently. After 8 years of government agencies being weaponized to attack conservative organizations (ex. IRS, EPA), how about the same agencies now take a close look at some of the ultra liberal corporations (like Google) that are donating $millions to left wing causes.

You make a good point. The first priority of a bureaucrat is to justify his job. The second priority is to expand his department. So bureaucrats create a need that doesn't exist, then hire more people to fill the need.

Elizabeth Warren's hypocrisy is no less:

Elizabeth Warren’s Female Staffers Made 71% of Male Staffers’ Salaries in 2016 Equal Pay Day Special: Warren demonstrates hypocrisy on gender pay gap

The gender pay gap in Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D., Mass.) office is nearly 10 percent wider than the national average, meaning women in the Massachusetts Democrat's office will have to wait longer than most women across the country to recognize Equal Pay Day.

Equal Pay Day, created two decades ago by the National Committee on Pay Equity, is scheduled by using the Census Bureau annual unadjusted gender pay gap to determine how far into the next year women would have to work to match annual earnings of men. Last year's figures, showing that women earned 79.6 percent of what men earned, put Equal Pay Day on Tuesday April 4, more than three months into the calendar year.

However, women working for Warren were paid just 71 cents for every dollar paid to men during the 2016 fiscal year, according to a Washington Free Beacon analysis.

The median annual earnings for women staffers, $52,750, was more than $20,000 less than the median annual earnings for men, $73,750, according to the analysis of publicly available Senate data.

When calculated using average salaries rather than median, the pay gap expands to just over $26,051, or about 31 percent.

Consistent with previous Free Beacon analyses of Senate salary data, only full-time staffers who were employed for the entire period in question were included in the calculations.

For example, Warren's former chief of staff Mindy Myers and her male replacement Dan Geldon were not included because neither worked the full year.

Among employees employed the entire year, only one woman, Warren's director of scheduling, earned a six-figure salary, at $100,624.88.

Five men—Warren's director of oversight and investigations ($156,000), legislative director ($149,458), deputy chief of staff ($119,375), Massachusetts state director ($152,310), and deputy state director ($113,750)—earned more than Warren's highest paid woman staffer in 2016.

Many discount attributing gender pay differences to discrimination, arguing that these comparisons fail to take into account several contributing factors, but Warren is not one of them.
Warren said on last year's Equal Pay Day that the American workplace was "rigged against women" and called it a "national day of embarrassment" for the nation.

"Today is Equal Pay Day, and by the sound of it, you would think it's some sort of historic holiday commemorating the anniversary of a landmark day that our country guaranteed equal pay for women," Warren said. "But that's not what this is about. Not even close."

"The game is rigged against women and families, and it has to stop," Warren continued. "It is 2016, not 1916, and it's long past time to eliminate gender discrimination in the workplace."

Historically, 1995 was the last year where the national pay gap was comparable to the 2016 gap in Warren's office, according to data collected by the group that founded Equal Pay Day.

Warren is far from the only politician who pays women less than men.

Most notable on the list is failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who paid women less than men first as a senator, then as secretary of state, and as a presidential candidate. Her campaign viewed her tendency to pay women less than men as a campaign vulnerability.

Former President Barack Obama regularly spoke out about the gender pay gap, but women working at the White House were paid less than men.

Also paying women less than men were Democratic Govs. Jon Bel Edwards (La.), who last month held an "equal pay summit," and Andrew Cuomo (N.Y.), who has signed two executive orders this year to eliminate the wage gap.

Warren's office did not respond to inquiries regarding the disparity.

How incredibly stupid would you have to be to let a hooker inject you with something? And these guys are supposed to be the cream of the elite? Yeah right.

And I'm with Elk Hunter on this nonsense. Government has 'zero' authority to meddle in what any company pays its employees, be they male, female, or I guess in the current climate, 'other'. I hope President Trump and his administration can have a positive impact on this issue over the next four (or eight) years.

If women can do the same job and are willing to work for 30% less, how come companies don't fire all the men, hire women to replace them and pocket the difference?

In addition, why aren't there any outcries of gender inequality in the coal mining industry? Or why female strippers and waitresses make more than men in those industries?

I distinctly remember a statement made by my statistics instructor in college.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

I once proved, by using statistics, that drinking milk as an infant leads to drug abuse as an adult. How? Simple, every baby drinks milk. All drug users drank milk as an infant. Walla, statistical proof that drinking milk as an infant leads to drug abuse as an adult.

My point in teaching using that example was to show that every "statistic" should be viewed with caution, especially if it had to do with some politically sensitive issue.

Remember all those commercials about how 9 our of 10 movie stars use some specific (Ivory?) soap. Pure BS, but it helped sell a lot of that soap.

Ding ding ding! Winner winner chicken dinner!

Any business that I have ever been involved with was in it to make a profit. If the pay gap is as significant as some politicians (particularly from the Left) would like you to believe, then the in unemployment rate for men as a whole would be sky rocketing.
