Could it be a $200k contract for a period of years that includes repaint and maintenance?

Your tax dollars at work! Could they not have used that money to hire a few extra cops, no we have to paint a rainbow on a street, that will reduce crime and make everybody feel good. Critical thinking, yes that's what it is!

And you really don't want to know how much gender fluid is in that paint, or how they harvest it.

Good question...I looked into and found another article with more details.

The 196K was for initial installation and a one year 'warranty' for repair of any 'normal wear and tear'.

https://thegavoice.com/city-at...-rainbow-crosswalks/
quote:
“The initial cost to install the crosswalk is approximately $196,000,” Mayor Reed’s Deputy Press Secretary Jewanna Gaither told Georgia Voice via email. “The life expectancy of the crosswalk is 10 years. Our contractor will make any necessary repairs, including normal wear and tear updates, as part of the warranty for the first year at no charge. The Department of Public Works will be responsible for pressure washing the crosswalk as needed.”

It'll be interesting to see what happens if a pedestrian gets nailed in that non-regulation crosswalk.

It would be ironic if a gay was rear ended at that intersection.

Transgenders are also really mad that they didn't paint one of the crosswalks in trans colors (whatever those are):

quote:
Local transgender activist Monica Helms expressed her frustration that one of the crosswalks wasn’t done in the colors of the Transgender Pride flag, which she created in 1999.

“I don’t see anything saying that one of the crosswalks will be trans colors,” Helms wrote on Facebook on July 1. “I am angry, even though I contacted the City Council (Alex Wan) and the mayor’s office. Others, like Sarah Rose, have also contacted people involved with this. I think the trans community, whether you live here or not, express your outrage at our omission. The mayor’s office is 404-330-6100 and his e-mail is mayorreed@atlantaga.gov. Remember that Georgia has the fourth largest percentage of trans people in the country and the fifth largest by numbers. Let him know that. One of the rainbow crosswalks can be painted over after the fact.”

It would be nice if the world ever gets this way - to real equality. It would mean a lot less BS for us to have to listen to.

It's more of a waste than you know. From what I read on another site the gay community originally raised the money and painted the crosswalk on their own for around 50k. The city said it was unauthorized artwork or something and removed it. Then they decided to pay the almost 200k using taxpayer money to redo what the gays did for 50 of their own money.

This one is firmly on the city, not the gay community in the city.

Often contracts like this are political payback. Perhaps the painting company contributed to an election, or the company is run by deviants who are in bed with the politicians. Sort of like Obama giving millions to Iran, the politician just needs an excuse.

After that 1 year warranty is up, you can bet it's gonna be another $200k plus every year (inflation of everything government cost, +1) to keep it up.

They can't let that work of art deteriorate into something that looks like some kind of LGBTV-whatever orgy, can they Roll Eyes

Identity politics rearing its ugly head again.

LGBT lobby not interested in being equal, but to be favored, fawned over, and placed on a pedestal. They represent 3-4% of the entire U.S. population, yet want their "culture" at the forefront of American, damn everyone else.

Seriously, would we even want a "heterosexual intersection", of course that sounds stupid.

As someone posted earlier, if sexual identity is to be truly equal, basically an invisible aspect of our lives, this shit needs to stop.

I have posted before, back in the CA Prop 8, those in the gay community were quite clear, the issue was not about equal treatment under the law as married couples; the goal was to be able to muzzle/punish, by gov't action, any who might publicly express moral disapproval.
