“Organic” is a highly abused marketing term that IIRC has zero standards or definition. Like the whole “free range” thing where it turned out that producers let the animals have something like 10 minutes a day to move around in a small pen to be able to label it as such.

If you’ve ever tasted bananas that were grown less than 500 miles from where you’re eating it, you’ll be surprised at how great the flavor is. I say 500 miles but I just mean in-country. I imagine it’s the same surprise I had when I first had country farm eggs for breakfast in a B&B in Vermont. I asked what did you put on the eggs? I explained I was tasting flavors I’ve never tasted before from an egg and she replied they get their eggs from a nearby family farm. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Woke? Really? Well, I guess if eating heathy natural foods without herbicides, pesticides, and sundry other chemicals is "woke", sign me up. Heck, I can't wait to plant my woke garden this year. I need to go down and check on my woke chickens this morning as well, and I think I'll fry up some sausage made from a woke hog for breakfast. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." It's like opening a box of cracker-jacks... "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

So much agree here! Just because it’s promoted by the Birkenstock folks does not mean it is automatically woke. The regulations to call something ‘organic’ are incredibly restrictive, it is one thing the government actually gets right. It is mind blowing when you realized how many of the dyes, preservatives and additives we put in our food are literally outlawed in most of the world’s food supply chain. RFK JR’s pledge to go after the FDA was one of the main reasons I was looking forward to voting for Trump this time around. He’s already influenced the FDA to fully ban Red Dye #3 and the administration has not even been sworn in yet. https://thehill.com/homenews/n...w-banned-by-the-fda/ ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Just about everything is sprayed, waxed, poisoned, full of hormones or chemicals. I don’t buy into the whole organic thing too much but if there’s a chance I’m consuming less chemicals and poison, I’ll take it unless it’s way more expensive. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! A few things about USDA Certified Organic... As has been said, by 'Ronin1069', "it is one thing the government actually gets right." If it's not 'the' one thing the .gov gets right, it's definitely up there! There are MANY benefits to using/eating 'USDA Certified Organic' food in your diet, and there are ZERO downsides. Yes, these benefits come at an increase in cost, so one needs to weigh the cost/benefit(s) when deciding what's important to you. Here are some examples to consider: In produce items, USDA Certified Organic is most important/beneficial in those vegetables that one would consider less 'durable' and less robust, especially items with thinner, more porous skins/outer layers. Think Lettuce, Celery & Strawberries, and the like...Pesticide absorption is a BIG concern here. In produce items that have thicker, less porous skins, USDA Certified Organic 'may' not be as beneficial or cost justified. Think Avocados and Oranges. One 'could' think this would apply to Bananas, however post harvest chemical ripening can justify buying certified organic here as well. In most cases, pesticide is less of a concern with such produce. In livestock USDA Certified Organic means that the animal feed is also from USDA Certified Organic sources. Think Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey, etc, and even Eggs! It also means NO Artificial Growth Hormones, and no pumping the livestock full of Antibiotics as a couple of absolutely key benefits! You should be concerned with the 'ingredients' that go into your meat as well. For those that care (and there are many that do!), ALL USDA Certified Organic foods are by definition/regulation requirements, Non-GMO, so purely natural foods...Nothing genetically modified, and/or genetically bio-engineered. It also means the mandated use of natural fertilizers, and primarily natural pesticides are used as well. You are what you eat! This message has been edited. His diet consists of black coffee, and sarcasm. |
My dad was a true organic farmer, in this case tomatoes in the back yard. No pesticides (at least when he was in charge of it - long story) of any kind. If any pests like tomato worms (a big ugly caterpillar) turned up, he simply picked them off and crushed them. Those were the best tomatoes ever. The closest thing to home-grown/organic now are the ones grown in nearby Grainger County.
