Anyone have one that can grab me a measurement?

We have a mattress on order and I opted out of the platform from them as I already have a platform. I will need to drill some holes in it to allow the hoses to get to the mattress. I saw in the store that the hole was 2” x7” long and it is centered between the foot and the head of the bed. I just need to know how far in from the side is the hole on one side (I will duplicate it on her side)

The platform we have is covered in cloth and I don’t want to be holding up the deliver guy while I drill holes…if I take a few minutes now I can keep from snagging cloth and messing it up.

Or should I wait and see if the delivery guys have a work around?

We returned one last year. I would suggest you try & sleep on it before you modify anything you own.

My sleep number was 75-80 at the store, wife was 50ish. 2 weeks in, I was at 40 & it was still like sleeping on a rock, but one that sagged in the middle. A week in & I tore it apart to make sure they gave us the one we ordered - "our most popular model". 3 weeks & I was calling to return. Had to wait at least a month to start a return. Offered money back to keep it Slept on the floor or couch for 2-3 weeks waiting for them to pick it up. Wife slept with son on his $200 mattress after 2 nights.
Not a good experience. I slept on some hotel beds that had sleep number & didn't mind them. I've never slept in such an uncomfortable bed.

Despite the high pressure sales, we really like our Sleep Number. I think ours is the i8 in a king size. The center of the hole where the tube goes through on our bed is 4" from the outside edge of the bed, and centered between the head and foot so about 39". Ours is just a circular hole about the size of a golfball.

Thanks, but that’s not what I was looking for.

Xxxx

JohnV, that is what I needed…four inches from the edge.

The lady told me that the delivery guys might have an “extension” kit for locating the hoses elsewhere, but I’m still gonna have to drill a hole thru the platform.

Mike, the measurement will vary and I would expect units may have different placements for the connections for different sizes and model "years."

You may not even have to worry about it at all. We do have the full platform under the bed though and I have not drilled any holes.

I would expect the crew installing the bed will be very familiar with such issues, and they will probably even have a hole saw or drill bit to make the hole(s) as needed. Ask them if they need to drill during install and you can ensure it's done correctly.

Edited to add: Our fittings to the inflatable part of the mattress are dead-center for the air chamber. We have a California King which has two chambers. We're away from home, so no ability to measure.

^^ the lady in the store said they are not allowed to do any work besides install. and drilling holes was not one of them….she said her husband used to install/deliver them for a side gig and he never was allowed to drill or do actual work in a home

I’m gonna drill the hole, it won’t harm anything if they are not used and if I have to go drill holes near the head then so be it.
