Been using these for two years. Just like Bassamatic's trap will catch several mice! So much more effective then Victor snap traps.

The anti-freeze in the water is a great idea. I will redo that tomorrow.

Yeah, I've been using those Victor traps and similar ones for years. They work just OK as I think the mice adapt to them pretty quick. I've used poison traps as well but those are a little dicey what with the granddaughter and dog. Nope, this bucket seems to really get the job done.

This, heavily salted water would probably do the trick as well and if other animals or kids get into it, not toxic like antifreeze.

I leave a setup like the OP's inside my cabin in the UP when I am not there. We call it a Yooper mousetrap. I use RV antifreeze. It helps cut down the odor a little bit. When I leave it over winter I usually find over 20 mice upon my return in the spring.

I still use the Victor traps, but my grandmother taught me to put the bait on the underside of the baitholder (usually peanut butter) instead of the top part.

A truly cautious mouse can nibble the peanut butter off the top of the baitholder and not throw the trap - if the has nerves of steel and the touch of a heart surgeon, but I have never had them steal it from the bottom without throwing the trap.

It may be that in the process of eating off the bottom of the trip lever, they place their front paw on the top of it for counterbalance. This may ensure tripping it, while bait just on the top may only get licking pressure.

OK i tried this bucket idea with a 3" piece of PVC with end caps. Drilled a hole for the wire through the bucket and pipe, coated with Jiffy and set up on board for a ramp. Went to the barn this morning to find the Jiffy eaten off the one end closest to the ramp with no bodies in the RV antifreeze inn the bucket. Do I have my peanut butter roller too close to the edge of the ramp?

Unless you have some hefty mice/rats... Their not heavy enough to get the PVC rotating would be my guess

Mine is built similar with 3/4" PVC, but I only smear PB on the center 4"--works great!!

I use 1 inch aluminum rollers off a old conveyor belt, and the paper feed of a old printer. On my up sized
300 gal raccoon trap I only use 2 inch conduit

Had one mouse body in the bucket. I moved the roller a little further out away from the ramp. More tomarrow I hope Big Grin
