don't see many of these around any more;
never had one at hand to examine/fire on targets.

Sometimes they show up 'barely used' for 2-$300 with 1 magazine.

What is the consensus on reliability/accuracy/usability of one of these as compared to just getting a separate 22LR.

Not sure if it is exactly the same. I have the conversion for a 220. It has a very unsupported chamber. Every case fired is bulged by the rim. Sig rep told me they wont do anything about it. That did not please me.

that seems uncharacteristic of them

Think I heard the 220 unit doesn't fit the 229-1 E2 model anyway.

While not exactly what you are asking, i have the 22 kit for a 226.
Never had any issues with functionality. However, after a couple of days of use, it "got old".
A 226 just doesn't feel right to me firing 22s. Ive used it maybe 2-3 times in 10 yrs.
Its okay for a new shooter that may be afraid of recoil, but just doesn't float my boat.

Just my $.02

I have one that I purchased in 2009. I haven't fired it in a few years, but the last time I used it it work pretty well. After it got dirty I had the occasional FTF or FTE but it functioned pretty well. It is pretty fun, and was handy for familiarizing myself with the gun when I first bought it.

Got one for my 229. Shoots and functions well. You need to count your shots when shooting because the mags don't lock back on the last round and you could damage your firing pin or barrel with a dry fire.

I have a P226-22LR that I use as my backyard training pistol. I fire CCI Standard Velocity with a Sparrow suppressor and it's quiet and reliable. I've been very happy with it.

The biggest downside is that 22LR is of course very dirty, especially when suppressed. This leads to the rails getting gritty which will wear/abrade the anodizing very quickly even when using grease.

So if you have a classic Sig that you cherish and would be upset by premature wear on the rails, then I would not put a 22LR kit on it. If the wear doesn't concern you and you want a good practice pistol that feels like the real thing, especially with the trigger, then the 22LR upper is a great option.

Thanks gentlemen, for insights into the 22LR conversion.

I believe my needs will be better served by abandoning the 22-conversion option.
