Very sad.

I enjoyed watching the show as a young one. It is hard for me to believe the show only ran 2 years. How is that possible, it seemed much longer to me.

Damn. I AM getting old.

Actually, "getting" might be understating the situation...

RIP, Peter.

First concert I ever went to was the Monkees 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour at the Five Seasons Center, Cedar Crapids, Iowa. Year was 1986.

RIP Peter.

Sad news.

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

The Monkees were at their peak my first year at the stodgy University of Illinois, some sort of educational exemplar or so we were told. The dorm had a couple communal tv rooms and it was SRO on Monkees night.

The truly hip hated the Monkees, a total fabrication. So much musical influence came out of the SoCal/Laurel Canyon scene and the Monkees were in the middle of it. Most of those "actual" groups used studio talent on recording and couldn't play live any better than the Monkees. FWIW The Monkees also kept up with the "real" groups in the party/drug scene as well.

There is some great music from the Monkees, go ahead, admit it, you know it's true.

A good read if you're interested, not an article, just about a book --

Tork was a real musician to the end, making a living mostly in music post Monkees.

We've reached that time when 60s musicians and celebrities will be passing on.

Rest in peace. I have to admit that I was closet fan. Even watched their comedic t.v. show, although at times not very funny.
