Hope your weapons are stored more secure than your watches.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear it. The sentimental value is probably higher than would have been with the real thing.

I think if nothing else, if you don't hear back from the father, you might just send him that picture and tell him "this is what was stolen, and I'll be leaving reviews online for your business explaining that a gold Rolex Presidential got stolen from my house when you and your son were the only ones there." Might get you more of a response and faster than fishing around with the DNA stuff. The son is gonna hear "DNA" and laugh. Reviews like that could ruin the business and that would be more of a motivator than bluffing.

By any chance, are these clowns near me? I don't want to accidentally hire thieves who already ripped off another Sigforum member.

Agree with Smudge ... and as an old retired big city LEO knew the DNA story would not hold water as already difficult to get DNA processed on homicide cases. I would of went with a story having a video ( no details ) and the window washers could own up or suffer.

This happened to me at my daughter's house with window washers when an inexpensive caliper disappeared. They knew I had video outside but was able to bullshit about the video inside. The story worked and it was returned sitting on the front porch ( no contact ).

That (the video camera ruse) was my first thought, but then I considered the fact that I had two possible suspects and the father (whom I was talking with over the phone) had only recently recovered from a serious medical issue. The son was the more likely suspect, but he wasn't immediately available to talk to. The DNA "bait" question seemed best, considering whoever had taken the watch needed to both open the case and remove the watch from a fabric holder that would have probably caught "touch DNA" in reality. Of course, what PD is going to recover then compare DNA samples for such a minor loss (less than $5.00 probably). Roll Eyes

Seriously? I mentioned the security (safe) that houses actually valuable watches. Most people would pick up on the hint that any working firearm would warrant more protection than a non-working, fake watch. And no, I don't put our dinnerware, loose pens and pencils, and other low value items in a safe. The watch was where it was because it's value and and ability to cause harm to others was obviously negligible. Roll Eyes

I have two indoor cameras and plan to get more. I figure it will help with these kind of things along with the police being able to see how the bad guys killed me.

I also have three outside cameras plus two doorbell cameras.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Great watch story. I’d want it back, too. I hope the kid fesses up and hasn’t already sold it to someone.

That watch may have been stolen for the last time...
